The computer does not see wifi from the phone. Why doesn't my phone see the wifi access point? Why doesn't Android see WiFi? Problems with the router

The problem when a mobile device (smartphone, tablet) cannot find a wi-fi network and, accordingly, connect to it, is not uncommon. Devices running the Android operating system are no exception. If android does not see wi-fi, what do they do? b? Let's look at possible options for which such a problem may arise. Does the mobile device see your network specifically, but does it see other networks (neighbors, cafes, etc.), or does it not see any network?

  • Check the router through which you are connecting to the Internet (perhaps it is frozen and needs to be rebooted, or it is simply not turned on). It is possible that your mobile device with Android OS is trying to connect and the connection process stops at the stage of obtaining an IP address. In this case, the problem can be solved by rebooting the router.
  • Android does not see your wi-fi network, but it catches other networks. In this situation, reconfiguring the access point (router) can help you. You need to go to the settings of the wi-fi access point. Finding the section "Wireless Network Settings", then select the item "Enable Auto Channel Selection".If there is a checkmark next to this item, you need to uncheck it. After this, the field will become active "Wireless Channel" with drop-down lists where you can select default options.
  • If android still does not see wi fi, what should I do then? Try resetting your mobile device (smartphone, tablet) to factory settings. If this option does not work, then you should contact a service workshop. It is possible that your device's antenna or built-in module that provides wi-fi functionality is damaged.

If you have a tablet running Android OS, then most likely it will have a built-in Wi-Fi module. I have never seen a tablet without Wi-Fi; even the cheapest Chinese models are equipped with this type of wireless connection.

The instructions will be presented in two parts, first setting up the modem/router, then connecting the tablet to a Wi-Fi access point. If you have been using this technology for a long time, but just don’t know how to set up Wi-Fi on your tablet, you can skip the first part and proceed straight to the second.

Part 1. Enable Wi-Fi on your modem or router

I assume that you have no idea what this “Wi-Fi” is, how to turn it on and how to use it. If I’m right, then you did the right thing by starting to read the article from here, from the first part. I repeat, if you have everything set up for a long time, you use Wi-Fi on your laptop, then read part 2.

Before you can use Wi-Fi at home on your tablet, you need to enable it on your modem. I hope your modem can create Wi-Fi networks. To make sure of this, read the instructions for the modem or look at its characteristics on the website. Look there for words like “802.11” or “Wi-Fi”. The easiest way to find out is to look for a light bulb on the modem that says “WLAN”. If it is there, then there is Wi-Fi.

If you don’t know what to write here, try to find out this information from the person who set up the Internet for you or from the person who sold you the modem. Alternatively, you can contact your Internet provider.

Further actions depend on your modem model. You need to find a menu item with a name like “WLAN” or “Wireless Lan”. Look on the left in the menu. Check the box next to “Active Wireless LAN” or “Enable”. Set the network security type to “WPA2-PSK”. Enter the name of your Wi-Fi network in the “SSID” field and enter the password of your network in the “Pre-Shared Key” field. Click the "Apply" or "Submit" button to save the settings.

But that is not all. We go to the DHCP settings (this thing somehow distributes IP addresses to everyone who connects to the network). Depending on the modem model, these settings may be in a variety of places. The screenshot shows the possible location of such settings. Although in my Zyxel modem they are hidden along the path Network -> LAN -> DHCP Setup. Enable DHCP if it is disabled by switching the checkbox to Enable. If DHCP is enabled, read the next paragraph. If there are no checkboxes, but there is a list, select the Server item opposite the DHCP item. After turning on, reboot the modem (this can be done either in the modem settings interface, which is where you are now, or simply with a button on the modem.

Part 2. Connecting the tablet via Wi-Fi

All that remains is to connect the tablet to the newly created network. The actions will depend on the version of Android on your tablet. If you have version 4 and higher, the first Wi-Fi item is right in the settings. Turn it on. If you have Android version 3, you also need to go to the wireless connections settings item. And there already turn on Wi-Fi.

After the device thinks, it will show you a list of found networks. Select the network that you created in part 1 (this network will be called the same as you named it in the “SSID” field), or which you already have and to which you have been connecting your laptop for a long time. Next, you will be asked to enter a password for it. Again, enter the password that you specified in the “Pre-Shared Key” field. After all the steps, the tablet should connect to the network, which you will know by the antenna icon that appears next to the clock.

Part 3. Endlessly obtaining an IP address...

The most common problem that users have when connecting a tablet via Wi-Fi is the constant message “Obtaining an IP address.” It doesn't connect any further. There are several solutions to this problem:

— Rename the Wi-Fi network to English. As suggested in the comments, sometimes tablets do not connect to networks whose names contain Russian letters.

— Enabling the DHCP server. How to enable it, read above, in the 1st part of this article at the very end.

— Changing the Wi-Fi network encryption type. You can change the type of protection in the Wi-Fi security settings (this is the same place where you set the password and network name). Try setting some other value in the highlighted items. Don't be afraid, you won't damage the modem with your experiments. For the changes to take effect, reboot the modem.

— Manually enter IP addresses and DNS servers in the connection settings on the tablet. When connecting to a Wi-Fi network, in the window where you are asked to enter a password, open the additional settings menu. And there select IP Settings -> Custom. In the IP address field, enter your address, it looks like 192.168.1.*** (for example, 192.168.1.128). In the Gateway field, enter 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 (check with your legal provider). All that remains is to enter DNS, which is different for everyone, but which you can also find out from your Internet provider.

Why can't my Android phone see the WiFi network from my laptop? This question often worries users. It is worth noting that when distributing WiFi from a laptop, you get the same network as using a regular router. Therefore, the principle of its operation and configuration is practically the same.

The only difference is that the router has more extensive and flexible parameters. In addition, you should know that you can organize an access point on a laptop in different ways. One of them is organizing a “Computer-to-Computer” connection. In this case, your phone or tablet simply will not detect the network, since it is designed exclusively for computers.

Why doesn't Android see the WiFi network?

There can be many reasons for this. If you organized a network using a router, then first of all you will need to enter the settings, since all settings are made exclusively in the router. If the network was created on a laptop, then you should go to the operating system settings. As you can see, you don’t need to configure anything on the tablet or smartphone itself.

The fact is that the Android operating system is made in such a way that all the settings have already been entered and users simply have nothing to configure. Everything is extremely simple. Therefore, we will look for the cause of the error directly at the access point itself (in the router or laptop). So, let's look at both options in more detail.

Why Android may not see the WiFi network (video)

Setting up the router

Very often, Android does not see the WiFi network due to incorrect router settings. So let's go into the router menu and make all the necessary adjustments. To do this, connect to an access point on your laptop or desktop PC. Open your favorite browser and enter the router's IP in the address bar. How to recognize him. As a rule, there is a sticker on the device itself with all the data. But if it is not there, the necessary information can be found in the user manual. If there are no instructions, then we do the following.

Press two Windows keys + R at the same time. In the window that appears, write CMD and click “OK”. Thus, we launched the command line. Here you can view detailed information about the network to which your computer is connected. To do this, write ipconfig and press Enter. After this you will see the connection information. Here you need to find the line “Default Gateway”. This is the address we need to enter in the browser. As a rule, most routers have the following IP - 192.168.0.1 (but there are also 192.168.1.1) It all depends on the model.

How to easily find out the IP address of a WiFi router (video)

So, after we have entered the desired address, press “Enter”. After this, we need to enter a username and password. Here we write admin, admin respectively. If you changed these values, then enter your data.

That's it, we got into the router parameters. The interface may vary depending on the model and brand of device. We will analyze further steps using the D-LinkDir-615 router as an example. But it is worth noting that all access points operate on the same principle, so their configuration is practically the same. The only difference is in the design of the menu and the names of some sections.

First of all, click on the “Advanced settings” button at the bottom of the screen. After this, additional sections will appear. We are interested in the item called “WiFi”. Here we enter the main settings.

First, check if the wireless connection is turned on. There should be a checkmark in the “Enable wireless connection” line. If it’s not there, then install it, save the settings and check if Android finds our network.

If the problem is not solved, then we move on. Now you should check the channel. Try changing it. It is recommended to set the value to "Auto" (automatic detection). A little lower you need to select the network mode. It is recommended to select 802.11 B\G\Nmixed from the list. This is a mixed mode in which devices that support different WiFi communication standards can connect to the network.

Now find the line “Hide access point”. This feature hides your network. Because of this, devices simply cannot detect it. In this case, the connection to the router must be created manually. If there is a checkmark here, uncheck it, save the settings, reboot the router and try connecting your smartphone or tablet to the network again. This completes the router setup.

Why Android won't connect to Wi-Fi: Video

Setting up a virtual access point on a laptop for network discovery

A very common question is why Android does not see the WiFi network created on a laptop.

The fact is that simply creating a virtual access point is not enough. After this, you should open access to it and enable detection.

This is done simply. First, we need to log into the network control center. To open the tool we need, find the network icon in the tray (in the lower right corner of the desktop). Right-click on it and select the required item from the menu that appears.

A menu will open in which you should enter the “Change advanced sharing settings” item. Here you just need to enable network discovery and allow file and printer sharing. In addition, at the very bottom of the menu you need to disable network access with password protection.

That's it, the setup is complete. Try connecting your Android to the network again. You must also remember that if you use a laptop as an access point, then the range of such a network is lower than that of a router. This is because laptops use less powerful antennas.

It is worth noting that the WiFi adapter antenna in smartphones and tablets is even weaker than in a laptop. This means that in some cases Android may not see the network as a result of being too far away from the signal source.

For example, on a laptop the signal level is about 20% (2 sticks), and a smartphone in the same place does not see available connections at all. The solution to this problem is simply move closer to the router. Or try moving the router closer to the center of the room and position it higher so that the signal can cover a larger area.

What to do if Wi-Fi is connected, but the Internet does not work on Android: Video

Hello! Yes, I will write again about problems with Wi-Fi :). Someone needs to fight capricious wireless networks, which usually provide more inconvenience during setup than pleasure during use. Very, very many different problems arise, and most of them are difficult to even explain.

Today I will write about one of these problems. And I will give some recommendations that may help you solve it. But I can’t guarantee anything, I hope you understand.

What does the problem look like?

I think that after reading the title of this article, you can already understand what this article is about. I began to notice comments in which people wrote that their devices, be it a laptop, a computer with an adapter, a phone, a tablet, or a game console, did not see their home Wi-Fi network. It is simply not in the list of networks available for connection. At the same time, the device sees neighboring networks. But why? I thought for a long time, but could not come up with a logical explanation for this problem.

By the way, such nonsense can occur even after some work with Wi-Fi, that is, everything was working, you turned off the laptop (for example), and turned it on, but it no longer sees your network.

Here you need to act quickly and save your phone or other equipment from flying into a wall or window :)

Attention! This article is about when a device does not see a wireless network, but only one network, for example, while other neighboring networks are detected.

The device does not see Wi-Fi [possible solution]

Roman left the following comment on the site:

To be honest, I didn't know what to recommend. But then I thought again and realized that, as a rule, the most incomprehensible problems arise due to the channel on which the wireless network operates, or rather due to interference on the channel.

And I advised you to experiment with channels, as written in the article. Roman changed channel (unfortunately, he didn’t write which one he installed, but it doesn’t matter, you need to experiment) and everything worked for him. The laptop saw the network. A free channel can be determined using the InSSIDer program.

I don’t know if changing the channel really helped, or just rebooting the router 🙂 but the problem was solved. By the way, Reboot the router first if any problems arise. A simple reboot often helps.

There was also a comment where the game console stopped seeing the home wireless network. But I don’t know how it all ended.

You can also try experimenting with the mode of operation of the router, I wrote about this in the article.

Perhaps you have already encountered this problem and somehow solved it differently, or please leave your thoughts on this issue in the comments. And I will update the article and add useful material.

Bye everyone!

The laptop (phone, tablet) does not see the home Wi-Fi network (it sees the neighboring ones) updated: February 7, 2018 by: admin

Good afternoon everyone!

In many cases, it is much more convenient to connect a smartphone to a Wi-Fi network (than to use 3G/4G Internet). Firstly, it is often unlimited, and secondly, the speed and stability are much higher.

But..., in some cases, the phone stubbornly does not see Wi-Fi, creating discomfort (and in some cases, for example, on the road, at the airport, on vacation, it is completely impossible to access the Internet).

Actually, in this article I wanted to give the most common reasons why a smartphone (on Android) may not find a Wi-Fi network. I think the note will be useful for many users.

Note: I emphasize that this article deals with the issue of Wi-Fi “invisibility”. If you are connected to Wi-Fi, but you do not have the Internet, then this is a slightly different problem (to solve it, use this note:)

What can you do if Android does not see the Wi-Fi network?

Sometimes, due to various errors, it may happen that the router (for example) stops distributing the Internet. Therefore, one of the very first tips in this case is to reboot the router (to do this, simply disconnect its power supply from the network for 20-30 seconds).

2) What channel (region, if any) is selected in the Wi-Fi settings

Each radio device operates at a certain frequency (and the router is no exception). So, the frequency in the router settings is affected by the channel (region) *, and I’ll immediately note that different countries use a different number of channels: in Russia from 1 to 13, in the USA up to 11, in Japan up to 14.

The point here is that if your device is localized to work in another country, then it may not see some channels. Let's say, if your phone only sees from 1 to 11 channels, and auto mode is selected in the router settings (and it selected channel 13), then your phone simply will not be able to work with such a Wi-Fi network.

The channel and region are set in the wireless network settings in the router’s web interface (see a couple of screenshots below).

To help! How to enter the router settings -

How to choose the “best” channel to work with (instructions), how to change it in the router settings -

Important!

Now most classic routers operate at a frequency of 2.4 GHz, but recently new routers with 2 frequencies have appeared on sale: 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz (5 GHz allows you to unload the 2.4 GHz frequency and improve the quality of the Wi-Fi network in homes where too many routers operate at the 2.4 GHz frequency). But the whole point is that not all laptops, tablets, phones support the 5 GHz frequency. Pay attention to this too!

3) Does the phone even see Wi-Fi networks (at least any?)

If the above does not help, pay attention to your phone: does it see any other Wi-Fi networks?

If the phone does not see any Wi-Fi networks at all(although other devices find them) - perhaps it has a hardware problem (the Wi-Fi module could become unusable). I recommend rebooting your phone, removing the case and trying to find Wi-Fi again. If this does not work, contact the service center.

If the phone generally sees Wi-Fi networks, but doesn’t find just one specifically for yours - then pay attention to the channel and region (I already indicated this a little higher), the coverage area (perhaps you are too far from the router and the signal in this place is weak), to some parameters of the router (a little about them below ⇓).

4) Does the router distribute a Wi-Fi network (can other devices see it?)

Next, I recommend checking whether the Wi-Fi network (which you want to find on your phone) is visible to other devices, for example, a laptop or tablet. It is possible that the problem is still in the router settings. For example, the router settings could have been reset (this sometimes happens during power surges).

Another important point: the router may have a “white” list (blocking unknown devices is usually done by ). This is done for security purposes so that “unknown” devices cannot connect to the Wi-Fi network. Therefore, pay attention to the “Security”, “Parental Control”, “Bandwidth Control”, “Wireless Network Settings” tabs in the web interface of your router.

In some cases, it is much easier and faster to restore factory presets (they usually do not have any locks or restrictions).

5) About Wi-Fi coverage radius

Pay attention to the location of the router. The fact is that the quality of the signal and the range of Wi-Fi coverage very much depends on where the router is located and where the receiving device is (every “extra” concrete wall or other obstacle greatly reduces the signal). And if the phone is located behind two concrete walls from the router, it is quite possible that it will not find this network.

To help! Ways to strengthen the Wi-Fi signal - improve reception and increase the network radius at home -

6) If you distribute the Wi-Fi network from a laptop

If, then in some cases it is necessary to make some settings in the Windows Network Control Center (the fact is that security settings in Windows 7+ by default can block the Internet for other devices) .

First you need a tab: Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network and Sharing Center.

Then open several profiles one by one that will be in this tab (private, guest, all networks) and disable password protection, enable network discovery, and allow file and folder sharing.

Then recheck the Wi-Fi operation (it is advisable to restart Windows and the phone before doing this).

7) The last resort is resetting the settings (the so-called Hard Reset)

The last thing I can recommend is to reset your phone, try to return it to factory presets (the so-called Hard Reset). Please note that during this operation: the entire phone book, phone parameters and settings will be reset and will need to be set again!

To reset your Android device, just go to the “Recovery and reset” section and open the “Reset settings” item (see screenshot below).

That's all for now, additions on the topic are welcome...
