How to make fb2 from word using standard tools. OpenOffice: Creating a book in fb2 format. Program for reading fb2 on a computer

Before creating fb2 books I advise you to read the article dedicated directly to .

Before you start, you need to install program for creating fb2 books. I use a program called BookDesigner.

A little about why I chose this one program for creating books in fb2 format.

  1. It's free.
  2. It provides a flexible tool for preparing text before creating an fb2 book.
  3. It is “omnivorous” (supports a large number of input file formats (txt, html, etc.)).
  4. It is quite easy to learn.

So, you can install the installation for this program. You will need two of them. Installation must be done in the following order:

  1. Install "BookDesigner v.4 Installer".
  2. Unpack “BookDesigner v.4 program update” and copy the contents of this to the folder where the program was installed in step 1 (usually C:\Program Files (x86)\Book Designer 4.0).
  3. Owners must also install “DHTML Editing Control for Applications”, which can be used.

After installation, you will be able to find as many as 3 shortcuts, of which only one is of interest to us at the moment. For creating fb2 books launch “BookDesigner 4.0”.

You should see the following window.

Initially, a document was uploaded there with brief instructions on preparing the text before creating a book in fb2 format. To open the Russian instructions, click on the “Russian” button at the very top. If suddenly no instructions open automatically, you can find them manually using the following path: Help – Self Teaching – My first E-BOOK. You can also find other lessons there.

Oh yes, I almost forgot to explain why this one is needed preparing text before creating fb2 books. As I already said in, all structural elements in the fb2 format are strictly limited from each other. And if you simply open some source file with text, the program will not always be able to correctly determine the title of the book or its author. During preparation, you manually determine the title of the book, who its author is, and so on. This is why preparation is needed, so that in the end you get a really sensible fb2 book.

So, you will read in the instructions how to prepare the text before creating an fb2 book, but I will show you how easy it is to add text to the program and get an fb2 book from it.

I get the source material (books in txt format) from lib.ru. Today I downloaded the collected works of A.S. Pushkin from there and want to make a full-fledged one out of it book in fb2 format. In the BookDesiner program, in order to open a new text, you need to do a simple operation: Click File - OpenBook, select the desired file and click Open. The text will be loaded into the program.

I click on the “Make fb2 file” button and check the book title and author.

Recently, the author of this article has been regularly proofreading books and creating fb files for libraries. Since my method of making a file beautiful and correct is not described anywhere, this article appeared. The author in no way claims that this method is the only true and correct one; on the contrary, some of the functions of the programs are not used (although they could be), but the habit and inertia of thinking are characteristic, alas, of all people.

All the basic rules for creating fb2 books are described in the article How to make a book, which I advise you to read.

I use several programs in my work:

  • Microsoft Word, or MW (any version) - for preliminary editing of the document and design of links
  • FictionBookDesigner, or FBD - for beautiful book design, arranging headings and nested parts and creating an fb2 file
  • FictionBookInvestigator, or FBI, is a component of the BD and FBD packages, which can be used separately to edit a book using Unicodes, where necessary.
  • FictionBookEditor, or FBE - for final editing of a book after proofreading and checking its validity
  • BookDesigner, or BD for making a fb2 file in reader format. Latest update
  • MassTextProcessor , or MTP - to correct some inaccuracies that are not allowed in libraries, but are allowed in FBD

In principle, the last program can be omitted; FBD has all the necessary tools, but I love it for its ease of use, small size and no need to install it. In addition, it allows you to work with a large number of files at once, which, however, will not be described here.

To the question - why do I use two programs of the same type (BD and FBD) the answer is simple. There is a big difference between BD and FBD: FBD is completely Unicode, and BD is only partially. Those. if you need to make a book with languages that are incompatible within the same local encoding (for example, Russian and French), then this is only in FBD. In addition, FBD is made specifically for making fb2 files, and BD is omnivorous. It has many formats for both input and output.

Sequence of work

MW, preliminary editing

So, the file that comes to me after scanning and recognition from the scanner is in .rtf format ( R ich T ext F ormat) which is recognized and edited by regular MW. Therefore, first of all, we enter Word. The main task of this stage is to format the links and correct the obvious, very “crooked” text.

First of all, in order not to miss paragraph breaks, select all the text and use the right mouse button to call up the menu. Go to the "Paragraph" item and select "Indent" -> "First Line" -> "Indent".

Call the “Font” menu again -> select the font size and type of the entire document. This is done because when recognizing text, a change in font type or size often falls in the middle of a word. In this case, when uploading a file to FBD, there will be a space in this place.

Next, “Tools” -> “Options” -> “Spelling” we check that the checkboxes are checked: automatically check spelling, always offer a replacement, skip words with capital letters, skip words with numbers, skip Internet addresses and file names, automatically check grammar , also check spelling. We do a “re-check”.

There is a slightly different option for working with MW - loading a template. This method is well described, and I will not repeat it. My only objection to this method is that FBD still doesn’t understand such volumetric formatting, so whether it’s worth fencing the garden. But maybe for some it will be more pleasant or convenient.

Then the most tedious and disgusting work begins - we carefully look through the entire file, correcting errors and creating footnotes. There are two types of footnotes in the source file - those indicated by an asterisk and those indicated by superscript numbers. First, go to “Insert” -> “Link” -> “Footnote” and set it up. Footnotes should be at the bottom of the text, number format 1,2,3..., start from 1, continue numbering. Apply the changes made. Next, “Tools” -> “Settings” -> “Commands”, select “Insert” in the left window and drag the “Footnote...” command from the right window to the toolbar.

When a footnote appears in the text, place the cursor in the place of the footnote and click on the button that appears on the toolbar with the mouse. Place the footnote text in the window that appears below. Thus, all formatting of footnotes comes down to the following procedures:

  • move the cursor to the footnote
  • remove footnote indicator (asterisk or number)
  • click on the AB1 button on the toolbar
  • highlight footnote text
  • drag it with the mouse into the lower window
  • remove the remaining "garbage" from the footnote - empty lines, asterisks, numbers, etc.

Having reached the end of the file, we additionally check by searching for missing footnotes.

In a situation where bold or italics fall on part of a word, select this word and make it normal or completely highlighted depending on the text. This, again, is done so that later a space does not appear inside the word.

At the same time, we highlight the headings in bold and empty lines for their automatic subsequent recognition.

Save the file and exit MW.

FBD - fb2 file production

Before opening a file using FBD, especially the first time you use it, it makes sense to check the settings of this program. I have it set up like this. The most important thing is to check if there is multi-language support for books with Spanish, French and similar languages. In addition, I always preserve the original format and often use title detection not only by keywords, but also by selected text, since chapter titles are often highlighted in bold during recognition.

This menu is called up using the button

After making all the preliminary settings, it is recommended to reload the file so that they are applied to it. Next, we look through the file for the placement of headings, quotes, poems, etc. Some errors are identified and corrected at this stage of work. Let me make a reservation right away: to select a piece of text, you need to double-click on it with the mouse. In this case, the paragraph is highlighted. If you need to select more than one paragraph, first select the first one by double-clicking, and then go to the last one and Shift+click the mouse. Only in this case will the text selection be 100% correct. All BookCorrector commands apply only to selected text.

First, we check whether the author and title of the book have been identified correctly. If not, correct it using BookCorrector (select book author and book title, respectively). Then we define the annotation (if there is one) as an annotation (BookCorrector annotation). Next, we look for all titles (BookCorrector title), epigraphs (epigraph), poems (verse) and quotes. Quotes (letters, etc.) are the hardest! The thing is that they are not supported by BookDesigner as a separate function. In this connection, in order to get a beautiful and well-made file, you have to get creative. Personally, I do this: at the beginning of the quote, on a separate line, I put the set of letters xxxxx, and at the end of the quote, also on a separate line, zzzzz. Next I will tell you how to convert this to a normal form. Or, as an option, you can design them as epigraphs. The advantage of the second method is that the author of the text is allowed in the epigraph, but with a large (very large!) number of quotes, this is a somewhat inconvenient method, leading to an increase in manual labor. I’ll also talk about what to do next with epigraph quotes later.

In addition, in epigraphs, poems and quotes there may be an author of the text, who should be formatted as a text author.

BD and FBD also have a very convenient search tool: Tools -> Element Browser. It allows you to find incorrect line breaks and incorrect paragraph endings. To do this, you need to run a search for broken sentences and bar ends(user). When you click on a line in the browser, BD automatically takes the location of this element and highlights a paragraph, heading or picture - depending on what you are looking for. It is also convenient to check the titles - it is advisable to have the table of contents of the book at hand.

At this stage of working with FBD, I also make additional adjustments to the pictures in order to optimize their size. To do this, I exit the editor completely (in the settings I definitely have the load last book at startup checkbox checked and go to the LastFile folder in the main directory of the program. It stores the html0 file and pictures for it. I optimize these pictures using IrfanView (however , the program can be any one who likes it.) After which I call FBD again, either just like that, or by opening this html0.

After selecting all the headings, you need to form the future structure of the book. At this stage, FictionBookSectionEditor is very convenient to use. It is called using the icon

And it looks like this

In this section editor, using the arrows, we set up a document structure that is easy to read and logical from the point of view of the table of contents. For example, this

After that, be sure to click the apply button to record the current location of the sections. ATTENTION! If you exit the section editor and enter it again, the sections will appear unlabeled again! Your changes in the editor will not be visible! Therefore, do not exit the section editor until you get the desired result!

The last thing left to do before actually producing the fb2 file is to format the footnotes. To do this, select the footnotes and do Format->selected notes.

Now you can call the FB2 creation menu.

If you did everything correctly, then the author, book title and abstract fields are already filled in. All you have to do is select a genre from the list provided and insert a cover by dragging it with the mouse from the Windows Explorer window into the book cover picture window. Check your settings - the book for library option must be enabled. To correctly identify dashes/hyphens, I have recently been using the dashes->long parameter, but I did not redo the screenshot. Click on the make book button and wait for a sound signal indicating that the book is ready.

In principle, now you need to validate the resulting file. If errors occur, the very convenient FictionBookInvestigator tool is automatically activated, in which you can correct incorrect pieces of code. It is also called in the “Make Fiction Book File” window with the “load to FBI” button, which is activated after creating fb2.

FBI - preliminary editing of fb2 file

FBI (Fiction Book Investigator) is a specialized manual editor/validator of fb2 files. In terms of options - several times more powerful than FBE in terms of the set of options. In addition, in it I make bulk replacements for dashes that are not recognized as long by FBD and make the quotes that I mentioned earlier.

After making fb2, upload the file to FBI, then to Find/Replace:

Find what: uni(44)uni(45)uni(32) replace with: uni(44)uni(32)uni(151)uni(32)

Click "replace all"

This converts all comma-hyphen-space constructs to comma-space em-dash space.

Find what: uni(46)uni(45)uni(32) replace with: uni(46)uni(32)uni(151)uni(32)

Click "replace all"

This converts all dot hyphen space constructs to dot space em dash space.

Find what: uni(33)uni(45)uni(32) replace with: uni(33)uni(32)uni(151)uni(32)

Click "replace all"

This converts all constructions of the form "exclamation mark hyphen space" to "exclamation mark space em dash space".

Find what: uni(63)uni(45)uni(32) replace with: uni(63)uni(32)uni(151)uni(32)

Click "replace all"

This converts all constructions of the form "question mark hyphen space" to "question mark space em dash space".

Find what: uni(32)uni(45)uni(32) replace with: uni(32)uni(151)uni(32)

Click "replace all"

This converts all hyphens of the form "space hyphen space" to "space em dash space".

Find what: replace with:

Click "replace all"

Find what: replace with:

Click "replace all"

The last 2 points create quotes from the previously defined xxxxx and zzzzz constructions. After producing the fb2 file, they are converted into paragraphs, which must be replaced with the necessary tags. Be sure to carry out validation after this! Check if there are any unchanged structures left somewhere (sometimes garbage in the form of spaces, tabs, etc. gets into the paragraph).

After all the quotes are formed, I search for the end of each quote and, if necessary, highlight the author of the text at the end. F7 - tag-list, select the desired text, having previously deleted the tags, double click on the tag .

Typically, at this point I'll finish the FBD and move on to the FBE editor.

FBE - fine-tuning

The FBE editor is convenient because it allows you to edit both the appearance and the source code of a document and clearly reveals its structure. When you expand the “tree” of the table of contents, all flaws and shortcomings are immediately visible and can be easily corrected. Moreover, you can edit both in text mode and in tag mode.

The first step is to make sure that the structure of the document is beautiful and logical, there is no unnecessary division into sections, and the table of contents will look good. As an example, headers divided into sections.

When such a broken heading appears in the text, it is, firstly, ugly, and secondly, inconvenient, since this heading is the title of the chapter. These are two headings of the same level, so you can safely combine sections and avoid unnecessary increase in the number of sections. To do this, placing the cursor on the top of the sections to be combined, press Alt+Del. After that, select the heading that has turned into a section and drag it into the heading. Remove extra empty lines, or add them if the title is too long and looks ugly.

There are several points that I edit in any document made in FBD. 1. Abstract. FBD, in addition to creating a separate item in the description called annotation, duplicates it into a separate section immediately after the author and title of the book. This dubbing is not very convenient for subsequent use of the file, so I delete this section entirely. Right mouse button Select->body/section, and right button Cut or Delete.

2. Often files in which the pictures appear one after the other do not pass validation. The fact is that FBD does not insert an empty line between such pictures, which is what the scheme requires, even if you manually try to insert a line. Therefore, we place the cursor on the second, third, etc. pictures and press Enter.

3. Editing quotes. As you remember, we highlighted quotes as epigraphs. Now we need to make quotes out of them. It is more convenient to do this in the source code editor (View->Source). We find the tag by searching and look a little higher. Directly before it there is a section break, since the epigraph can only be placed at the beginning of the section. But the quote can go anywhere in the section, so the section break can be removed, and instead ... insert ...

4. Blank lines before and after the chapter title. Such lines are extremely rare, but they must be removed according to the rules for creating a valid document.

5. This is, in fact, not an edit. And this could have been done in FBD, but I’m doing it here because I like the form offered for filling out in FBE better. This is filling out the description file! How to fill it out and what to write where is intuitive and well described in other articles, so I won’t dwell on this.

MTP - footnote cleaning

In principle, as I already said, it was completely possible to do without this program. But I love her, and that’s why I’ll tell you. It is very convenient when you need to make a massive replacement in a file (or several files) of text structures with variable text inside with other structures with the same text. In principle, with the same success you can use BookCleaner, which is part of FBD, by writing an appropriate script for it, and this will probably be even faster, but I use MTP.

This processor has its own, very simple, macro language, the text of which I will give in full.

The crux of the problem that needs to be resolved is that FBD and its author strongly disagree with fb2's rules regarding footnotes. In the format, trackbacks are generally permitted, with the exception of footnotes. Therefore, they must be corrected in order for the library to accept a valid file. In addition, the type of links is brought to the library standard.

Unfortunately, this approach removes all paragraph markings present in the document. Therefore, if there are other internal links in your book, you better do this work manually, or you will lose them. The adjustment occurs in 3 stages.

1. Elimination of paragraph markings.

So, out the window ORIGINAL TEXT write a block like this

TEXT="

and through the window REPLACED BY- such

TEXT="

and start the processor.

ORIGINAL TEXT

TEXT=" "

REPLACED BY

TEXT=" "

3. Definition of the footnote number as a heading.

ORIGINAL TEXT

TEXT="

[" NAME=BLOCK1 MAXLENGTH=20 TEXT="]"

REPLACED BY

TEXT=" \n <p>" NAME=BLOCK1 TEXT="</p>\n\n

After so many edits, the file is so ready for proofreading that the errors encountered will not cause irritation and the desire to throw the book into some distant corner...

BD - for proofreading

I use the BookDesigner program to create a file for the device on which I read. I wouldn’t mention it at all here, but there is a bright and beautiful example of using BookCleaner, a program included in both BD and FBD, and suggested to me by the developer of these programs. This is a perfect illustration of how MTP can be replaced by writing a small script.

If you remember, BD and FBD do not create, understand, or display citations. In the future this will most likely change, but in the present - alas. I would like to see all fb2 formatting in the device - firstly, to avoid possible errors and inaccuracies, and secondly, a beautiful book is simply pleasant to read. Therefore, in order to have quotes highlighted in the reader, this script was written.

Example for BD, the latest update must be installed. In FBD you can also do this, but there is an old version of Book Cleaner, the script is the same, but the buttons are different.

Tools -> Book Cleaner script -> new

]*>

RegExp: check the box.

table -> add row

script -> save as -> "fb2cite"

input file: before formatting -> select "fb2cite.bcf" input file: after formatting -> none output file (fb2): -> none

Close Book Cleaner. After loading fb2, all cites will be highlighted in red. If there is a text-author inside the cite, it will be highlighted with its color. When you double click on the first line of cite, the entire element will be selected, and its type will appear on the 4th status panel: cite

The example is given in the author's edition. I changed it a little to suit myself. The changes affected the color of the text - red is too bright for me. For a long time I also used converting text to italics, until I came across a book in which italics turned out to be significant in the text of the quotes. But for those interested, I can say that you can insert tags And. In addition, in order for em dashes to be visible during proofreading, I took the advice of the program’s author, renaming all long and mid dashes to a Greek letter at the loading stage? , and then converting it back to a dash. The pictures clearly show where to use which script stored in the file with the extension .bcf

Attention! After using Book Cleaner in tag replacement mode, it is strongly recommended to check the tag tree with Html Fragment Editor, especially for non-html experts.

Unusual books

In this section I will talk about unusual books that I came across for proofreading. New chapters will appear here periodically, as there is no limit to human perfection!

Many, many stories

A very unusual request came from the scanner - to split the collection of stories into many files, one story per file. Since it is not very convenient to proofread hundreds of files, first I divided one file into 19 by the number of authors in MW. This is done simply - a new file is created into which a piece of text from the original file is inserted. It immediately became clear that some authors cannot be divided into separate stories due to interconnected stories, and some cannot be divided due to the continuous numbering of footnotes within these authors.

The most important thing to say here is that you first need to completely create one file, carefully filling out its description and reading the annotation. If at least one error remains, it will then need to be corrected in all files.

When making subsequent files, you must use the FBD load description option before directly running make book on the make Fiction Book file tab. Then the description will be completely copied from the sample file, with the exception of the author of the book and its title. Attention! The ID is also copied, so change the number for each subsequent piece!

After proofreading and editing these 19 files, I began breaking them down into individual stories. To do this, I copied the file according to the number of stories and renamed each one so as not to get confused in the sequence of files (during the first split, the files looked like Collection_name_author_number.fb2. During the subsequent split, the number of the story in the author’s file was added to the file name). The breakdown consists of removing unnecessary things and editing the description(s). In the title of the tag you need to change the title of the book, correct the title of the story in the description(s) itself, and Necessarily! ID number.

As a result, I received 63 files without any problems.

Images

Another extremely complex book consisted of a huge number of pictures and quotes. I already talked about quotes above, but I want to especially touch on the pictures. To quickly search for all pictures in a file, as well as all specific components in general (headings, epigraphs, italics, footnotes, etc.), there is a very effective Element Browser program, included in BD and FBD. It displays a list of all pictures (or other selected elements) in its window and when you double-click on the name of the picture, it jumps to its location. Double-clicking on the picture itself opens the Insert/Edit Picture window, in which you can change the picture, delete it, and also change its size and type of location relative to the text. The very location of the picture can simply be changed by picking it up with the mouse and dragging it to another place. It’s easy to insert a picture using the F5 button, which opens the same window.

Final result

Well, we've reached the finish line. Everyone proofreads on their own device, so there is no point in describing proofreading; the final editing of the file takes place in FBE, which we have already discussed, and the output is a fairly error-free, beautifully designed book, ready to be uploaded to the library. This work is long and tedious, but the result, in my opinion, is worth all the effort.

A good book is considered to be a valid book with correctly highlighted footnotes, verses, epigraphs, other formatting and having a full title (translator’s name, cover, etc.)

General sequence of actions

  • Getting primary fb2 from txt|doc|html|etc.
    • Programs for creating fb2
    • Easy import using Any2FB
  • Finalizing the body of the document
    • Removing containers
    • Correction of fb2, highlighting of verses, etc.
    • Formatting footnotes (the instructions are not ready yet, but Any2FB immediately creates normal footnotes from footnotes of the form [footnote text])
  • Header Filling
  • Working with xml source
  • What is NOT in this document

Getting primary fb2

This stage requires the most skill. The following programs may be useful to you:

  • BookDesigner (and its clone Fiction Book Designer) is a monstrous and not very aesthetic tool. Among its undeniable advantages is its unique omnivorous nature. It can quite correctly recognize many exotically mutilated texts, reads all kinds of prc, pdf and even lit (for this, however, you will have to play tricks). The latest version includes a fairly convenient fb2 section editor and can work with regular expressions. Equipped with a certificate. A good choice for beginners, a useful tool in the hands of a master. Personally, I can’t stand him (GribUser).
  • Any to FB2 is not as omnivorous, but much more lightweight and a little more manageable tool. Intricate input texts may require some sleight of hand and knowledge of regular expressions.
  • ExportXML.dot is a laconic but effective macro for MSWord. Despite its hoary antiquity, it is a very worthy tool for converting literate doc|rtf files.
  • doc2fb is a slightly more modern and easier-to-use analogue of ExportXML.dot. For those who have MSOffoce 2003.
  • FictionBook Tools is last on the list, but first in importance. Not without shortcomings, but a one-of-a-kind tool for? fb2 documents. Must have.

The list looks a little scary, but not everything is so scary :) I suggest starting work with the FBE+Any2FB combination.

Importing a simple document using FBE+Any2FB

Install FictionBook Tools and Any to FB2. You may have to install the latest MSXML or even upgrade your system - FBTools don't work on Win9x.

So, the system is updated and the programs are installed. Open Fictionbook Editor from the FBTools package, call the menu?Import?/?ANY->FB by GribUser?. Let's move from simple to complex; first, let's convert a document from lib.ru. Enter the address of the text in Any2FB, reset the settings (if you have already used Any2FB) and click? Import?.

After we see the encouraging phrase Export finished on the Log tab, click the “Done” button. The document is transferred to FBE and we can see what happened during the import. Headings were recognized, one footnote was recognized. The paragraphs look good. The only complaint is that the title of the entire document was converted into a separate empty section, plus the line about OCR was recognized as the title.

Finalizing the body of the document in FBE

Basic operations for adjusting and refining fb2.

Let's get down to what it all started for - fine-tuning. I suggest simply removing the first line of the source document (some people make it the title for the body, but I don’t think that’s reasonable). The simple operation of removing an extra title section, however, is associated with known difficulties in the FBE editor. Removing structure elements (such as verses, sections, epigraphs) can only be done from the previous element.

Position the cursor above title? Arkady and Boris Strugatsky. Private guesses? and press the ?Del? key.

As a result, the text moved to the previous element and the old structural element was deleted. Press ?Del? until the text is deleted. This method works for any FB2 elements and you will use it widely.

Before we deal with the ?/* Scaned... section in the same way. It will be useful to look at the title editor. Among other things, it prompts you to enter information about OCR. Let's transfer the information from the body of the document there (Copy+Paste) and now with a clear conscience we will delete the text about OCR - no one is forgotten. It is also not forgotten that you need to delete a section from the previous element.

Abstract, epigraphs, poems, pictures

In ?body? mode at the beginning of the document, sections?annotation?are marked with colored markers on the left. (blue-gray) and ?history? (crimson). It is highly advisable to fill out the annotaion, thereby making life much easier for future readers). If you changed something in the finished fb2 document, fill out the history - for example, indicate that the document was proofread, a page was added that was missed during scanning, etc. Don't forget to change the document version number (see below).

If necessary, you can add an epigraph: place the cursor where it should be (the epigraph should immediately follow the beginning of the section and its name, if any) and press Ctrl+N (or Edit=>Add=>Epigraph). A purple stripe will appear, into which you need to copy the epigraph (you can simply drag it). If the epigraph is a poem, then inside the purple stripe (tag ) you need to press Ctrl+P (or Edit=>Insert=>Poem), a black ( ) and dark red ( ) stripes, you should drag the poem into dark red. ? this is a stanza, and there can be several such tags in a row. The epigraph probably has an author: drag his name to the end of the poem, select it, press Ctrl+D (Edit=>Add=>Text Author)? the dark red stripe ends, and the black stripe is extended by one line; copy the author's name in black stripes (tag after). That's it, the operation is completed (note: after the epigraph there should be some more text, that is, a tag

should not close immediately after the epigraph). Press F8 (call the built-in validator) to check the document for errors. If there is an error, Source mode will open and the cursor will automatically move to the tag in which the error was made.

You can insert a picture into a book (for example, the cover of a paper version): Edit=>Add Binary Object. After this, the file with the image is attached to the end of the document and can be used. To make an image a cover, in the Description mode, enter its name in the Coverpage-Image field, adding # first (for example, #cover.png). Now the cover is inserted into the Book Description (where it can be seen in Haali Reader) and will be automatically shown on the book page in the library. If you need to insert a picture in the text, you should press Ctrl+M (Edit=>Insert=>Image) or Ctrl+G (Edit=>Add=>Image). An empty frame will appear with the inscription Unknown image ID, click on it and select the ID (name) of the desired image in the drop-down list (the panel at the top with the inscription Href).

Please note that the cover no need insert at the beginning of the document. The cover is indicated once, in the description.

For a snack, can you rename the footnote?Note_1? in, let's say??. This completes our misadventures with the body of the document.

However, there is still something left for us to do. Namely, the title, which so far only contains information about OCR, and the author’s last name is indicated as “Boris Strugatsky?”. Don't eat gud.

Finalizing the title

Again, switch to title mode (menu?View?->?Description?) and get to work. First, let's choose a genre. When placed in the library, the book will be placed on the appropriate?shelf? according to this field.

The entire title should be filled in in the same spirit. Below is a picture with the required and optional fields filled in. Required fields are marked in red and comments are provided where necessary. Remember, the more reliable information you provide, the better. Spend time searching for the date the work was written, the name of the translator, and the publisher that published the book. Often such information speaks volumes.

Pay attention to the title of the series. No need to enter the title of the book like? The Adventures of Pupkin I: Pupkin on the Moon?, ?The Adventures of Pupkin II: Pupkin on Mars? and so on. Instead, enter the Book title ?Pupkin on the Moon?, and in the Sequence Name field enter ?The Adventures of Pupkin?. Don't forget to indicate the number of the book in the series, this will allow you to automatically arrange the books on shelves in the library - first to the moon, then to Mars, not vice versa.

Also pay attention to the ID field? If you upload an updated version of your book to the library, the value in this field (a combination of letters and numbers) should remain the same, but the version number should increase. This will allow you to update the book even if you have changed the title - the book will still be recognized as an update to an existing document and the old document will be correctly replaced. A side effect of this method of identifying books is the ability to delete any of your books from the library - you simply assign the new book the ID of the victim intended for slaughter and upload the book to the library on top of the old one. The world is cruel.

Working with source xml code

This mode is used to correct errors made in the previous two, as well as to perform all sorts of advanced (and non-advanced) tasks (such as section attachments) that do not have a convenient implementation in the graphical interface :). For example, it’s easy to get rid of unnecessary tags from here

(and they will probably appear during export). The author's name and book title do not need to be separated into separate sections; it is better to place them in a tag , coming immediately after <body>, and this can only be done in source mode.</p><p> <body> <title> <p>Philip Pullman</p> <p>The Amber Spyglass</p> <p>(His Dark Materials?Book Three)</p>
...

After this the tag opens

, which contains the text of the book, divided into chapters (tag after <section>). If there are several parts in a book, then each of them should be in a separate container <section>, into which the chapters will be nested (also each in its own container).</p><p>That's it, it seems, that's all. Let’s check the book again with the validator (F8), and you can send it to the library (don’t forget to enter your email and check the box next to “allow updating existing books?”).</p><p>If you want to look at a well-prepared document and generally use examples to figure out what to put where, I recommend downloading the book <b>Psychology of art</b>, the formatting there is very sophisticated and competent.</p> <h3><span>What is not in this document</span></h3> <p>This was a course for a young fighter and you will now be able to prepare very decent documents. However, as you will discover over time, the hardest part is the first stage, namely getting a fb2 suitable for fine-tuning. This document, unfortunately, covers this topic very poorly, so prepare for the worst :).</p><p>Preparing footnotes is also associated with certain difficulties, from which only Any2FB will save you, and even then not completely. The instructions for all these difficult operations are not yet ready, and your help here can help many people as much (if not more) than this document has (hopefully) helped you. If you have something to say, share it with the people.</p> <h3><span>What exactly needs to be added:</span></h3> <ul><li>Preparing complex documents using Any2FB</li> <li>Preparing fb2 using a template from Word</li> <li>Preparing fb2 using BookDesigner</li> <li>Working with Regular Expressions</li> </ul><p>If your working methods differ from those given above - write, we will include them in the instructions.</p><p>Send your suggestions, amendments, instructions and angry demands to grib@gribuser.ru.</p><p><i><b>Rollon and Dmitry Gribov</b> </i></p> <p>Hi all. I was looking for an interesting topic for a new article, but I couldn’t choose. I decided to take a break and read a freshly downloaded bestseller. But when I opened the “reader” on my smartphone, I was suddenly puzzled whether everyone knew how to make fb2 from txt. I looked at the request statistics and it turns out that this problem occurs quite often among users. So I found a relevant topic for another useful article.</p> <h2>What is fb2?</h2> <p>I’ll digress from the main idea and briefly tell you what fb2 is. Friends, you are all familiar with text editors such as Notepad, Word and others. Documents created in them are saved in txt, docx or doc formats. And fb2 is also a kind of text, more precisely, XML format, designed for storing and conveniently reading books in electronic form on all kinds of devices - computers, tablets and smartphones. The advantages of fb2 are complete preservation of the original structure of the text, full transfer of images (illustrations, book covers...), the ability to use for voluminous documents, the availability of tools for indicating quotes, epigraphs, footnotes, poems, and so on. The only negative is that reading books in this format requires a special program, for example, FBReader.</p> <h2>Methods</h2> <p>Let's say there is a certain text file (a book or other document created in Notepad or Word editor). It, out of necessity or simply desire, needs to be converted from txt format to fb2, but how to do this? In reality, the task at hand is solved quite easily and in at least two ways - through appropriate online services or special software for PCs.</p> <h3>Online services</h3> <p>The process of converting text from standard to electronic format is called conversion. The most affordable and easiest way to convert fb2 to txt is to use one of the online services available on the Internet, designed specifically for such purposes. The most popular are:</p> <p><img src='https://i2.wp.com/itswat.ru/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/onlineconvert.jpg' align="center" width="100%" loading=lazy loading=lazy></p> <p><img src='https://i0.wp.com/itswat.ru/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/convertfileonline.jpg' align="center" width="100%" loading=lazy loading=lazy></p> <p><img src='https://i2.wp.com/itswat.ru/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/onlineconverting.jpg' align="center" width="100%" loading=lazy loading=lazy></p> <p><img src='https://i1.wp.com/itswat.ru/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/convertio.jpg' align="center" width="100%" loading=lazy loading=lazy></p> <p>Using them is very simple - go to any of the sites indicated above, mark the required format, find the “Select file” button, click it, load the text document intended for conversion, command “Convert”, wait for the end of the running process and download the resulting books to your computer .</p> <h3>Converters for PC</h3> <p>Approximately the same algorithm of actions awaits us when using home text file converters to translate txt to fb2 (you can also vice versa), which are not difficult to download, and most of them are distributed free of charge. There are many such programs, I know the following:</p> <ul><li>BookReader 2.2.34;</li> </ul><p><img src='https://i1.wp.com/itswat.ru/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/BookReader.jpg' align="center" height="651" width="528" loading=lazy loading=lazy></p> <ul><li>TEBookConverter;</li> </ul><p><img src='https://i2.wp.com/itswat.ru/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/TEBookConverter.jpg' align="center" width="100%" loading=lazy loading=lazy></p> <ul><li>Caliber.</li> </ul><p><img src='https://i2.wp.com/itswat.ru/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/Calibre.jpg' align="center" width="100%" loading=lazy loading=lazy></p> <p>Using these converters is quite simple, despite the fact that they can be presented in English:</p> <ul><li>download the source file;</li> <li>We mark the format that we want to receive after conversion;</li> <li>designate the location where the future book will be saved;</li> <li>customize other aspects (change the title, indicate the author, and so on);</li> <li>you can even select a specific model of mobile device;</li> <li>We start the process by pressing the “Start” button.</li> </ul><p>Friends, as you can see from the algorithms I presented above, there is nothing difficult in creating an e-book yourself. In my opinion, everyone can do this. That's all for today, goodbye.</p> <p>FB2 is an extremely popular format, and most often you can find e-books in it. There are special reader applications that provide not only support for this format, but also the convenience of displaying content. It is logical, because many are accustomed to reading not only on a computer screen, but also on mobile devices.</p> <p>No matter how cool, convenient and widespread FB2 is, the main software solution for creating and storing text data still remains Microsoft Word and its standard DOC and DOCX formats. In addition, many e-books are still distributed there the old fashioned way.</p> <p>You can open such a file on any computer with Office installed, but it won’t look very convenient for reading, and not every user will want to bother with changing the text formatting. It is for this reason that the need to translate a Word document into FB2 is so urgent. Actually, we will tell you how to do this below.</p> <p>Unfortunately, it is impossible to convert a DOCX document to FB2 using the standard tools of the Microsoft Word text editor. To solve this problem you will have to resort to using third-party software, namely . This is not the most popular program, but for our purposes its functionality is more than enough.</p> <p><img src='https://i1.wp.com/lumpics.ru/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/dokument-Word-1.png' align="center" width="100%" loading=lazy loading=lazy></p> <p>Despite the fact that the installation file takes up less than 1 MB, the characteristics of the application are pleasantly surprising. You can familiarize yourself with them below; you can download this converter on the official website of its developer.</p> <p><img src='https://i1.wp.com/lumpics.ru/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/htmlDocs2fb2.png' align="center" width="100%" loading=lazy loading=lazy></p> <p>1. After downloading the archive, unpack it using the archiver installed on your computer. If there is none, choose the appropriate one from our <u>articles</u>. We recommend using one of the best solutions for working with archives - the WinZip program.</p> <p><img src='https://i0.wp.com/lumpics.ru/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/htmlDocs2fb2.zip.png' align="center" width="100%" loading=lazy loading=lazy></p> <p>2. Extract the contents of the archive to a convenient location on your hard drive, place all files in one folder. Once done, run the executable file.</p> <p>3. After launching the program, open the Word document that you want to convert to FB2. To do this, click the button in the form of a folder on the toolbar.</p> <p><img src='https://i2.wp.com/lumpics.ru/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/otkryit-v-htmlDocs2fb2.png' align="center" width="100%" loading=lazy loading=lazy></p> <p>4. After specifying the path to the file, open it by clicking <b>"Open"</b>, the text document will be opened (but not displayed) in the program interface. The top window will simply indicate the path to it.</p> <p><img src='https://i1.wp.com/lumpics.ru/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/dokument-otkryit-v-htmlDocs2fb2.png' align="center" width="100%" loading=lazy loading=lazy></p> <p>5. Now click the button <b>"File"</b> and select <b>"Convert"</b>. As can be seen from the tooltip next to this item, you can start the conversion process using the key <b>"F9"</b>.</p> <p><img src='https://i1.wp.com/lumpics.ru/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/konvertirovat-dokument-v-htmlDocs2fb2.png' align="center" width="100%" loading=lazy loading=lazy></p> <p>6. Wait for the process to complete, a window will appear in front of you in which you can set a name for the converted FB2 file and save it to your computer.</p> <p><img src='https://i1.wp.com/lumpics.ru/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/Book-Info-v-htmlDocs2fb2.png' align="center" height="581" width="578" loading=lazy loading=lazy></p> <blockquote><p><b>Note:</b> By default, the program saves converted files to a standard folder <b>"Documentation"</b>, and by packing them into a ZIP archive.</p> </blockquote> <p><img src='https://i0.wp.com/lumpics.ru/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/put-k-dokumentu-v-htmlDocs2fb2.png' align="center" width="100%" loading=lazy loading=lazy></p> <p>7. Go to the folder with the archive that contains the FB2 file, extract it and run it in a reader program, for example, the capabilities of which you can familiarize yourself with on our website.</p> <p><img src='https://i1.wp.com/lumpics.ru/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/FBReader.png' align="center" height="300" width="300" loading=lazy loading=lazy></p> <p>As you can see, a text document in FB2 format looks much more readable than in Word, especially since you can open this file on a mobile device. The same FBReader has an application for almost all desktop and mobile platforms.</p> <p><img src='https://i0.wp.com/lumpics.ru/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/dokument-otkryit-v-FBReader.png' align="center" width="100%" loading=lazy loading=lazy></p> <p>This is just one of the possible options that allows you to convert a Word document to FB2. For those users who for some reason are not satisfied with this method, we have prepared another one, which will be discussed below.</p> <h3><span>Using an online converter</span></h3> <p>There are quite a few resources that allow you to convert files from one format to another online. The Word direction we need in FB2 is also present on some of them. So that you don’t have to search for a suitable, proven site for a long time, we have already done this for you and offer as many as three online converters to choose from.</p> <p>Let's look at the conversion process using the last (third) site as an example.</p> <p><img src='https://i2.wp.com/lumpics.ru/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/On-layn-FB2-konverter.png' align="center" width="100%" loading=lazy loading=lazy></p> <p>1. Select the Word file that you want to convert to FB2 by specifying the path to it on your computer and opening it in the site interface.</p> <p><img src='https://i2.wp.com/lumpics.ru/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/dobavit-fayl-v-On-layn-FB2-konverter.png' align="center" width="100%" loading=lazy loading=lazy></p> <blockquote><p><b>Note:</b> This resource also allows you to specify a link to a text file if it is posted on the web, or download a document from popular cloud storages - Dropbox and Google Drive.</p> </blockquote> <p>2. In the next window you need to configure the conversion settings:</p> <ul><li>Paragraph <b>“Program for reading a received e-book”</b> We recommend leaving it unchanged;</li> <li>If necessary, change the file name, author, and margin sizes;</li> <li>Parameter <b>"Change initial file encoding"</b> It's better to leave it as it is - <b>"Auto-detection"</b>.</li> </ul><p><img src='https://i1.wp.com/lumpics.ru/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/parametryi-fayl-v-onlayn-FB2-konvertere.png' align="center" width="100%" loading=lazy loading=lazy></p> <p>3. Press the button <b>"Convert file"</b> and wait for the process to complete.</p> <blockquote><p><b>Note:</b> The download of the converted file will start automatically, so simply specify the path to save it and click <b>"Save"</b>.</p> </blockquote> <p><img src='https://i0.wp.com/lumpics.ru/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/Sohranenie-1.png' align="center" width="100%" loading=lazy loading=lazy></p> <p>Now you can open the FB2 file obtained from a Word document in any program that supports this format.</p> <p><img src='https://i2.wp.com/lumpics.ru/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/FBReader-Unknown.png' align="center" width="100%" loading=lazy loading=lazy></p> <p>That’s all, as you can see, converting Word to FB2 format is not at all difficult. Just choose the appropriate method and use it, whether it is a converter program or an online resource is up to you.</p> <script type="text/javascript"> <!-- var _acic={dataProvider:10};(function(){var e=document.createElement("script");e.type="text/javascript";e.async=true;e.src="https://www.acint.net/aci.js";var t=document.getElementsByTagName("script")[0];t.parentNode.insertBefore(e,t)})() //--> </script><br> <br> <script>document.write("<img style='display:none;' src='//counter.yadro.ru/hit;artfast_after?t44.1;r"+ escape(document.referrer)+((typeof(screen)=="undefined")?"": ";s"+screen.width+"*"+screen.height+"*"+(screen.colorDepth? screen.colorDepth:screen.pixelDepth))+";u"+escape(document.URL)+";h"+escape(document.title.substring(0,150))+ ";"+Math.random()+ "border='0' width='1' height='1' loading=lazy loading=lazy>");</script> </div> </article> <div class="related_block"> <div class="title">Related publications</div> <ul class="recent_ul"> <li> <div class="img_block"> <div class="overlay"></div> <img src="/uploads/035a8941a022d4185b97532478d1212e.jpg" style="width:230px; height:145px;" / loading=lazy loading=lazy></div> <a href="https://storerarity.ru/en/kak-sdelat-vsplyvayushchie-okna-wordpress-kak-v-wordpress-sozdat-vsplyvayushchee-okno.html">How to create a popup in WordPress?</a></li> <li> <div class="img_block"> <div class="overlay"></div> <img src="/uploads/e2957a578d101ce3d787da993b912f6f.jpg" style="width:230px; height:145px;" / loading=lazy loading=lazy></div> <a href="https://storerarity.ru/en/kak-razblokirovat-v-odnoklassnikah-chernyi-spisok-kak-v-odnoklassnikah-ochistit-chernyi-spisok-kak.html">How to clear the black list in Odnoklassniki</a></li> <li> <div class="img_block"> <div class="overlay"></div> <img src="/uploads/89080148aa7d9623b94c974a6eee9e64.jpg" style="width:230px; height:145px;" / loading=lazy loading=lazy></div> <a href="https://storerarity.ru/en/nastroika-klastera-1s-8-3-dlya-uvelicheniya-proizvoditelnosti-bezopasnyi.html">3 for increased productivity</a></li> </ul> </div> </div> <aside id="sidebar"> <div class="block"> <nav class="sidebar_menu"> <div class="menu-sidebar_menu-container"> <ul id="menu-sidebar_menu" class="menu"> <li id="menu-item-" class="menu-item menu-item-type-taxonomy menu-item-object-category menu-item-"><a href="https://storerarity.ru/en/category/programs/">Programs</a></li> <li id="menu-item-" class="menu-item menu-item-type-taxonomy menu-item-object-category menu-item-"><a href="https://storerarity.ru/en/category/windows/">Windows</a></li> <li id="menu-item-" class="menu-item menu-item-type-taxonomy menu-item-object-category menu-item-"><a href="https://storerarity.ru/en/category/devices/">Devices</a></li> <li id="menu-item-" class="menu-item menu-item-type-taxonomy menu-item-object-category menu-item-"><a href="https://storerarity.ru/en/category/browsers/">Browsers</a></li> <li id="menu-item-" class="menu-item menu-item-type-taxonomy menu-item-object-category menu-item-"><a href="https://storerarity.ru/en/category/reviews/">Reviews</a></li> <li id="menu-item-" class="menu-item menu-item-type-taxonomy menu-item-object-category menu-item-"><a href="https://storerarity.ru/en/category/reviews/">Reviews</a></li> <li id="menu-item-" class="menu-item menu-item-type-taxonomy menu-item-object-category menu-item-"><a href="https://storerarity.ru/en/category/setup/">Settings</a></li> <li id="menu-item-" class="menu-item menu-item-type-taxonomy menu-item-object-category menu-item-"><a href="https://storerarity.ru/en/category/torrent/">Torrent</a></li> <li id="menu-item-" class="menu-item menu-item-type-taxonomy menu-item-object-category menu-item-"><a href="https://storerarity.ru/en/category/editors/">Editors</a></li> <li id="menu-item-" class="menu-item menu-item-type-taxonomy menu-item-object-category menu-item-"><a href="https://storerarity.ru/en/category/instagram/">Instagram</a></li> </ul> </div> </nav> </div> <div class="block recent_block"> <div class="title">The last notes</div> <ul class="popular"> <li> <div class="img_block"> <div class="overlay"></div> <img width="240" height="145" src="/uploads/370b7c2a23baf72ec1884a15db3cd5a9.jpg" class="attachment-popular_thumb size-popular_thumb wp-post-image" alt="Clumsy page id.
