Recovering bookmarks in Mozilla Firefox. Yandex elements for the Mozilla Firefox browser Mozilla Firefox browser the home button has disappeared

Modern users visit dozens of necessary web resources every day: various social networks and video hosting sites, favorite browser games, information pages and payment systems. For ease of use and systematization of data, browser developers have created a system of selected sites. Visual bookmarks allow users to quickly and easily navigate between the pages they need without remembering their addresses. This article describes a popular problem - all visual bookmarks from Yandex or another service in Mozilla Firefox have disappeared, and ways to restore them.

Unlike some of its competitors, Mozilla Firefox does not have its own Express panel. However, this browser supports a modular architecture, so you can always add the functionality you need using additional extensions released by third-party developers.

Some problems may arise as a result of a glitch in the plugin itself, while others may be caused by broken Mozilla Firefox. Below are several ways to return lost information and restore the service.

The most obvious reason why visual bookmarks disappeared is that the plugin stopped working. Mozilla Firefox settings may have changed as a result of viruses, malware, or system failures. Or maybe some other personal computer user changed something on purpose or intentionally.

To restore the application and return lost visual bookmarks, follow the simple steps indicated in the instructions:

After these steps, the plugin will be enabled and will resume its work. This may bring back broken features.

Installing the plugin

If you don’t find your panel in the list of installed applications, it means that for some reason it was deleted. In this case, to get your favorite feature back, you need to reinstall the extension.

If your favorite sites in Firefox are missing for this reason, these steps will restore them.

For users who have used Yandex elements, there is a faster way to return them. Just follow the link https://element.yandex.ru/ and on the page that opens, click on “Install” in the “Visual bookmarks” category.

Backup

In order to be calm about your data, it is recommended to periodically perform a backup procedure. The created backup does not take up much space on your hard drive, and in the event of an unforeseen accident, it can easily return any lost or damaged information.

To create a backup copy of settings, browsers are recommended to use specialized software – MozBackUp. You can download this utility from the website http://mozutil.mozilla-russia.org/backup/index-ru.html. MozBackUp is freely licensed, so you don't have to pay for any of its features.

Download the installer and run it. There is nothing complicated in installing the program; it is standard for most Windows applications. Just follow the Install Wizard. When the software is installed, launch it.

Well, first things first.

Where to install Yandex.Elements?

Download Yandex.Alimony Elements. The FF assembly from the same Yandex blocks the download due to the unreliability of the source. Why they didn’t put it on addons.mozilla.org - I don’t know. They know better.

How does it relate to Yandex.Bar?

After installation, it cuts out the Yandex.Bar from extensions. In add-on management, “Visual Bookmarks” and “Yandex Elements 7.0” appear separately (the version hints at some continuity). The link to reviews from the description leads to the Yandex.Bar page at addons.mozilla.org. The buttons from the Bar seem to be all in place. In general, we can consider that this is a reorganized Yandex.Bar, which has learned to hide all enemy panels under a click.

What should I hide where?

Visible (enabled) panels with buttons are under the "arrow". An arrow like this appears in the corner, you click - enemy panels (mail agents, Google bars and other unnecessary things) come out. You press again and they crawl back. Previously, you had to right-click and check the box next to the toolbar you want to enable. Whether scripts linked to “hidden” bars are executed and whether it consumes memory, accordingly, I have not yet understood. It may very well be that he is eating.

Is there anything left?

Yeah, what remains is a set of buttons to the right of the smartbox (read “navigation panel”, see below) and the “Yandex” button, which opens the Yandex face (why?!), on the left (the button can be hidden).

The set of buttons that are visible after installation seems to be assembled based on history or something else behavioral. In any case, he showed me the services that I use, but the buttons for which I did not include in the old Bar. And also - city-weather-traffic jams, which I immediately turned off as unnecessary.

What is a "smartbox"?

The elements hide the search bar (which used to be to the right of the navigation bar), offering a “smartbox” instead. Smartbox is a navigation bar combined with a search bar. After two minutes of studying, I came to the conclusion that I would not use it.

Previously, I often did this - press “Ctrl+K” (cursor on the search line), write something like “x*1.1 = 49.99”, use “Ctrl+up/down” to select the Nigma search engine, press Alt+Enter. As a result, we see the calculated equation in a new tab.

Here the problems begin at the “Ctrl+K” item: by some miracle, this shortcut now opens the Yandex face in the current tab (god, why do I need a Yandex face!!!). Pray that there will not be, for example, an unfinished unsaved post in this tab =)

Problems continue with the impossibility of switching the search engine from the keyboard (or the non-obviousness of the method - the options that came to mind did not work) - you need to click.

Finally, the “default search” (which will be used next time) is switched through a special gear in the corner (look for it, then hit it, then wave the mouse again and again - sadness).

Fortunately, the old search string can be returned via “click on panels” / “Customize”, it will be there.

Total

In total, we’ll get used to it as always :) Maybe later I’ll notice something else and write. I can’t say that it’s so terrible that you immediately want to buy a plot in the cemetery www.ritualluks.ru/zahoronenie.html for those who screwed it up - but it’s not a delight, to be honest.

Thanks to the “smart bar” (which is obtained as a result of the above-mentioned combination of the address and search bar), it becomes easier to use alternative search engines - they are always at hand, accessible in one click :)

But really, keyboard access to them is not enough, thank you, we'll take note.

Yandex has a huge number of products in its arsenal, including a browser, translator, the famous KinoPoisk service, maps and much more. In order to make work in the Mozilla Firefox browser more efficient, Yandex has provided a whole set of special extensions, the name of which is Yandex Elements.

Yandex elements are a set of useful add-ons for the Mozilla Firefox browser, which are aimed at expanding the capabilities of this web browser.

Visual bookmarks

Perhaps this tool is the most significant in Yandex Elements. This extension allows you to place a window with bookmark tiles on a blank Firefox page so that you can quickly go to an important site at any time. The extension is well designed both from a functional and visual point of view.

Alternative search

A great tool if you have to work with multiple search engines. Easily and quickly switch between search engines from Yandex, Google, Mail.ru, search in Wikipedia, the Ozon online store, etc.

Most users, when searching for the average cost of a product, assessing its reviews, and also searching for the most profitable online stores, look specifically at the Yandex.Market service website.

Yandex.Market Advisor is a special extension that will allow you to display the best deals for the product you are currently viewing. In addition, using this extension you can quickly search in Yandex.Market.

Yandex elements

A separate browser extension that is an excellent informant. With its help, you will always know the current weather for your city, traffic conditions and will receive notifications about incoming emails.

If you click on any of the icons, more detailed information will appear on the screen. For example, if you click on the icon with the current temperature in the city, a window with a detailed weather forecast for the whole day or immediately for 10 days ahead will be displayed on the screen.

How to install Yandex Elements?

In order to install Yandex Elements for Mozilla Firefox, go to the official website of the developer using the link at the end of the article, and then click on the button "Install" .

Click the button "Allow" for the browser to start downloading and installing extensions. Once the installation is complete, you will need to restart your browser.

How to manage Yandex extensions?

Click on the menu button in the upper right corner of the browser and in the window that appears, go to the section "Extras" .

In most cases, visual bookmarks in Mozilla Firefox are installed using extensions. Failures that manifest themselves in the disappearance of these elements may be associated with errors in the operation of the plugins themselves or the web browser itself. Let's look at how you can restore these elements in Mozilla by reinstalling the extension or from a previously created backup if they are lost for unknown reasons.

Restarting the plugin

The most likely cause of a problem with the browser is that the installed plugin stops working. There may be several reasons for this, for example, viruses or a system failure could change the browser settings. To resolve the issue, do the following:

1. In Firefox, open the settings menu by clicking on the button with horizontal stripes.

2. In the drop-down menu, open add-ons.

3. In the Extensions tab, select your visual bookmarks extension and click Enable or “Enable”.

All you have to do is restart Mozilla, after which the visual bookmarks should appear as before.

If your browser blocks add-ons

Some extensions refuse to work after updating Firefox because the browser cannot check their compatibility with the new version. You will not be able to use them until the add-on developer adapts it for the updated browser. However, at your own peril and risk, you can bypass this limitation:

1. Go to the configuration editor by entering about:config;

2. Use the search function to find the line xpinstall.signatures.required;

3. This command is set to “true” by default in Firefox; change it to “false” by double-clicking on the line or pressing Enter.

After this, the application will not require a mandatory signature for add-ons and your visual bookmarks will be able to work in the browser. However, there are no guarantees that they will do this without errors.

Reinstalling the add-on

If suddenly your panel has completely lost previously installed add-ons, then install them again:

1. Using the method described above, from the Mozilla control panel, enter the add-ons section.

2. In the side menu, open the first item that allows you to install new add-ons in Mozilla.

3. In the directory that opens, use the search bar to install the desired extension. For example, if you have used Speed Dial before, enter the name in the search form and press Enter.

All you have to do is select the desired add-on from the proposed options and agree to its installation. When the process is complete, restart the browser - this way you can restore old visual bookmarks.

If you used Yandex elements, then there is an even simpler way to restore them. You need to go to https://element.yandex.ru/, where click on the icon for installing visual bookmarks, after which the extension will be installed automatically.

Making a backup of browser settings

To do this, you can use the built-in backup feature:

  1. Go to the bookmarks menu, select the command that displays them all;
  2. In the “Library” window that opens, click on the import and backups tab;
  3. In the drop-down list you can choose to create or restore the elements we need from the archive.

Browser settings are backed up automatically on a daily basis. But so that any of them, including visual bookmarks, can be quickly restored at any time, it is better to back them up periodically yourself, especially since the archive copy does not take up much space on the disk.

To create a backup, you can also use a small utility called MozBackUp. The application is old, but nevertheless works well on all modern Windows operating systems and successfully backs up the settings of the latest versions of Firefox. Working with MozBackUp is quite simple:

1. After installing and launching MozBackUp, you will see a welcome window, click “Next”;

2. In the profile operations section, select “Save”;

3. Specify the directory on the disk where the backup copy created by the utility in PCV format will be stored;
