How much does it cost to fix the screen on an iPad? How much does it cost to change the screen on an iPad? Reasons for glass breakage

Apple products are known for their high-quality assembly and excellent device performance. But for various reasons, equipment may require repairs. This often happens due to a person's careless attitude. Replacing the glass on the iPad 2 is required due to damage or other factors. This is discussed in the article.

Reasons for glass breakage

The display usually cracks when the device is dropped. In addition to mechanical stress, glass breaks for the following reasons:

  1. Factory defects. Prolonged use of the device leads to an increase in temperature. If the display is of poor quality and there is air in it, then it will burst when heated.
  2. Use of Chinese components in repairs. Cheap spare parts differ from the originals, so due to various factors they quickly deteriorate.
  3. Battery swelling. Deformation of the battery leads to increased pressure on the glass, causing it to burst.
  4. Hull deformation. Even if the device remains in order after the fall, the condition of the glass continues to deteriorate later. The display may break due to the housing being out of shape.

When is it necessary to change the screen?

Replacing the glass on the "iPad 2" is carried out not only because it broke, but also because of some problems with the touchscreen:

  1. No response to clicks.
  2. Incorrect touch handling.
  3. Part of the touchscreen does not work.
  4. There are cracks.

In case of such problems, device repair is required. After a professional display replacement, the iPad 2 will work properly again.

Diagnostics

Before replacing the glass on the iPad 2, diagnostics are required. The procedure allows you to determine what is broken and why it happened. Moreover, there are not always external signs of a malfunction.

Often the touchscreen module and screen matrix break down with the display. Then it is not only necessary to replace the iPad 2 screen. Modern versions usually require replacing the entire screen module. You should not carry out diagnostics yourself; it is better to entrust this work to professionals.

Difficulties of repair

Replacing glass is considered a complex procedure that requires skills and abilities. During repairs, the following problems may occur:

  1. Torn trains. This is due to improper removal of broken glass, especially when this work is performed by the users themselves.
  2. Unsuitable glue. Glass should not be attached with super glue, as it will break even with minor impacts. And in workshops they use double-sided tape.
  3. Glass cleaning. The old glue must be completely removed, only then will it be possible to properly install the new screen.

The device body may have wrinkled corners. Due to additional defects, the technician’s work becomes more difficult, and therefore the cost of repairs will be more expensive.

Why do you need to contact the service center?

iPad repairs should be performed by a technician. He will make sure that no mistakes are made during work. When working, no dirt or dust should get inside the device. Otherwise, you need to clean and disassemble the tablet again. When ordering work from a professional, a person receives the following advantages:

  1. Quality service.
  2. Use of original spare parts.
  3. Work using professional technology.
  4. Short repair period.
  5. Guarantee.

The iPad 2 device is designed in such a way that repairs are easier than other equipment. But there are a lot of screws in the tablet, so disassembling and assembling requires experience and knowledge, special tools, and equipment. All this can only be provided in a professional center.

Price

Masters begin repairing an iPad with diagnostics. After this procedure, you will be able to set a price, since everything depends on the complexity of the work. How much does it cost to replace the glass on an iPad 2? The minimum price is 1500-2500 rubles. It also all depends on the speed of work. If other defects need to be corrected, the price increases.

The repair duration is usually 30-60 minutes. When replacing, the old glass is removed, the body is cleaned of glue and glass, and then the body is repaired. Then, with a constant flow of air, the new display is installed. Special double-sided tape is used for fastening. If everything is done correctly, the new screen will be fixed perfectly.

How to increase the service life of glass?

What needs to be done to make the touch glass work for a long time. Although the device has a scratch-resistant display, it can still crack and break. To extend the life of the iPad 2, you need to treat it with care, that is, protect it from falls, and also avoid excessive loads. Devices are carried in briefcases and cases.

It is important to use a protective film that protects the screen from many adverse factors. Thanks to it, the display will not deteriorate from dirt and scratches. Some films have an anti-reflective effect, thanks to which the tablet can be used in direct sunlight.

Often the screen gets damaged when dropped at an angle. In "iPad 2" the case is made of soft aluminum, so the impact leads to a uniform breakdown of the entire area. To minimize the negative consequences, you need to use covers that cover the case. The device must be protected from falling into water, as liquid leads to the failure of many systems.

Thus, it is better to repair the screen on iPad 2 in a professional workshop, otherwise independent work may worsen the performance of the equipment. And then you will still have to pay to restore the device in a specialized center.

It is known that all Apple products always come with very high quality assembly. If we talk about tablets, then users extremely rarely encounter the problem of a non-working touchscreen. The same can be said about other difficulties that could result from poor design.

In this article we will talk about sensor problems that do sometimes occur. This element may not work completely or some of its functions may partially fail. In any case, this will result in a lot of inconvenience for the user, for example, the glass on the iPad 2 will need to be replaced.

Typically, iPad glass failures are serious. But in some situations, you can replace the glass on your iPad 2 at home. This material contains step-by-step instructions on how to perform this procedure correctly and without negative consequences for the device. First, let's look at the causes of breakdowns and their manifestations.

Most often, the display does not work for the following reasons:

1 Liquid has entered the housing. And sometimes a few drops are enough. The device does not necessarily have to fall into the water and lie there for a long time. The fact is that the proximity sensor is located on top, next to the earpiece hole. In general, trouble can happen even during rain if the user was talking at that moment. 2 The device fell or there was a strong blow to the body for another reason. The display may be completely intact. But the proximity sensor placed near the touchscreen may stop working normally. In such cases, the screen usually continues to light up during a conversation. 3 If the glass was replaced not by a specialist, but by an amateur. For example, the owners of the device themselves, who decided that he would cope with the task himself. But at the same time, the features of a specific tablet model were not taken into account, the device was assembled incorrectly, and the like. After this, the sensor mentioned above may stop working even if the loop is operational. 4 After replacing the locking element. The physical button is always replaced along with the cable. However, the display may stop going dark if the filter on the sensor has not been replaced.

As can be seen from the above list, there are a lot of reasons for breakdowns. Therefore, it is better not to even try to carry out repairs yourself. Especially if you have no experience and skills in handling equipment of this level. It is better to immediately go to a repair shop, where a specialist will first diagnose the breakdown. And only after this can you prescribe procedures and make repairs.

What to do if the sensor on the iPad does not work?

If malfunctions appear regularly, but the touchscreen works, albeit intermittently, you need to try rebooting the device. This can be done in the following way:

  • pressing the power and home buttons at the same time;
  • holding these elements for 15-20 seconds;
  • the device will reboot;
  • If Apple symbols appear on the display, everything went well.

Also, if the device screen is protected by an appropriate film or bumper, you need to remove them and test the functionality of the smartphone again. Perhaps the cause of the malfunction was precisely the use of these accessories.

If the owner of the tablet has done everything mentioned above, but the device cannot be revived, you should think about visiting a repair shop.

Preparation

If a user decides to replace glass at home, he will have to purchase this list of materials:

  • several screwdrivers;
  • adhesive tape;
  • a metal spatula, as thin as possible.

It is advisable to disassemble the device on a table with an antistatic coating. If this is not possible, you need to wear gloves with appropriate properties. All equipment, including tablets, react to this type of electricity. Therefore, without taking into account the safety rules, there is a risk of damage to the device. Then you will need to replace not only the glass, but also the board elements.

But it should be remembered that any wrong step can lead to serious damage to internal parts. All the tablet parts that make up the “filling” are very fragile. Then expensive repairs cannot be avoided. Therefore, before you decide to have the procedure at home, you should think it over many times.

Instructions for replacing the touchscreen

The sensor fits tightly and quite tightly to the gadget. Therefore, to remove the display, you need to warm it up with a hairdryer. In this case, the temperature should be no more than 200 degrees, otherwise the plastic frame near the wheelbarrow will melt. Warming up should be done with caution near the “Home” element to prevent it from melting.

1 To remove the glass, use a thin metal spatula to pick it up. The tool must be placed between the body and the glass. In this case, you need to continue heating over the entire area, moving the spatula itself along the same trajectory. If you lift the element while it is not heated, it will crack. 2 When the touchscreen is disconnected, you need to lift it up and put it down. Now you need to remove the display - there is no other way to connect the sensor cable. To do this, you first need to remove the remaining fragments from the screen. 3 Disconnect the touchscreen from the system. To do this, remove the cable located under the display. If the element is to be replaced, the tire can be cut off for convenience. 4 We begin to remove the display. We unscrew the 4 bolts that we find in the corners of the device. 5 We remove the screen back. Everything must be done with care so that nothing breaks. Prying with a screwdriver is strictly prohibited. Otherwise the element will crack. We pull the “ear” and lift it up. 6 Disconnect the display cable. To do this, lift the clasp and pull. The display can be put aside for now. 7 We disconnect the cable of the wheelbarrow itself and remove it. 8 Using a thin tool, we clean off the remaining glass and adhesive mass, again heating it around the entire perimeter. Previously, this was not worth doing, since small pieces of glass could fly onto the screen and damage it. You can simply remove the fragments from inside the gadget. 9 Remove the button from the damaged wheelbarrow. This element is also glued. Therefore, warming up followed by removal with a thin instrument will be required. You need to work very carefully so that the plastic does not float. 10 Remove the metal plate located around the perimeter of the camera. It is also heated, and only after that can it be removed.

The spatula or other similar element must be the thinnest so that the touchscreen does not get damaged even more and does not cover the screen with fragments. A number of craftsmen use plastic spatulas. But such material can easily melt if the permissible temperature is exceeded.

If the display has not been broken and does not need to be replaced, but you just need to get inside the case, you should act especially carefully. After all, you can easily damage the train. If you position the tablet so that the Home element is on the left side, the bus will be in the top left corner. If it breaks, the sensor will also need to be replaced.

Installing the display and assembling the device

Now let's get down to the most important thing - installing a new part on iPad two, Air or another tablet model. To do this, perform the following steps:

1 Place a metal plate on the new touchscreen of the gadget. It should be covered with a sufficient amount of adhesive mass, which can be heated, and then the element can be attached. If there is not enough glue, you need to resort to using adhesive tape. The plate must be attached correctly so that the camera hole falls strictly in its center after assembling the device. 2 Glue the button element. Here it is important to observe a proper arrangement so that the square rushes straight forward and is not shifted somewhere. 3 Tape along the entire border. Then you can start assembling. In essence, all the steps are similar to those that were performed when disassembling the case. The touchscreen is placed first, because if the display is placed first, connecting the sensor cable will become impossible. And only then do we install the display. Everything should be in its place and assembled in the correct sequence. 4 We perform a performance check. The glass must respond to touch, and the display must display the image correctly. After double-checking that everything is fine, you can begin assembly. It is important to thoroughly clean the display from small debris, hairs and other debris before using it. Otherwise, after assembly, it will not be possible to remove them a second time.

Remove the base of the adhesive tape and glue the touch. This completes the procedure. Please remember that iPad 2 repairs and glass replacement should only be carried out by someone with specific knowledge. It just seems that replacing the glass on an iPad Air 2 or any other tablet model is a simple operation. In fact, the element being replaced is easily damaged, just like other parts. Therefore, you need to weigh everything and, whenever possible, take iPad 2 to a workshop to change the glass. Of course, replacing a touchscreen is not cheap. For example, in Kazan and other large cities, replacing a sensor will cost 3,000 rubles or more.

There are a lot of reasons for replacing the iPad 2 display - from cracks to problems with the matrix. However, in almost any case, there is a panacea for solving this problem - replacing the screen module. It must be said right away that this is far from an easy process that requires attention, perseverance and patience. The average price for iPad 2 screen repair ranges from two thousand rubles from unofficial suppliers to four thousand from official ones.

How much does it cost to change the screen on iPad 2 yourself? For free. Therefore, if you want to change the screen on iPad 2, the price will be significantly lower if you do it yourself. Here it is up to you to decide what is more valuable to you - your time or your money. But in any case, while you are thinking about this question, read how to change the screen on an iPad 2. Let's get to work.

Necessary tools to repair the iPad 2 display:

  • A specialized mediator for opening - “opener”;
  • Thermal bag required to heat the glue inside the tablet;
  • Screwdriver #00;
  • A special spudger is a tool for penetrating narrow crevices and cracks in glass.

Spare parts required for this work:

  • iPad 2 LCD;
  • Adhesive transparent tape.

So, let's get straight to action. Replacing the display of an iPad 2 takes place in several stages. Read the instructions carefully to do everything correctly, replace the iPad 2 screen and not accidentally damage your device.

Removing the display from the iPad body

  1. You should clean the microwave before you start, as any, even the smallest and most inconspicuous debris can get into the thermal bag.
  2. Place the thermal bag inside the microwave.

ATTENTION!!!

Make sure the microwave plate rotates freely. If the thermal bag gets stuck, it will most likely overheat and burn.

  1. Heat it for 30 seconds.
  2. During repairs, if the thermal bag cools down, reheat it inside the microwave oven.

ATTENTION!!!

Be careful not to overheat it. Overheating may well lead to an explosion.

Never touch the thermal bag if it looks swollen.

If it's still too hot in the middle, continue using it while waiting for it to cool. When properly heated, the thermal bag should remain warm for up to ten minutes.

  1. Remove the thermal bag from the microwave.
  2. It will be hot, so be extremely careful when handling it.
  3. If your display is cracked, move away any shards and be careful not to get hurt by the shards.
  4. Place strips of clear tape on top of the iPad display so that the entire screen is covered with it. This will preserve any remaining debris and the structural integrity of the screen while searching for them and lifting the display.
  5. Place the thermal bag on the right edge of your iPad, pressing it lightly to ensure better contact between the surfaces.
  6. Wait about 90 seconds and then try to lift the front panel.

There is a small gap in the top right corner of the iPad, about 5cm from the top of the iPad. You need to use it.

  1. Place your instrument next to the mute key.
  2. Insert the tip of the plastic tool into the gap between the front glass of the iPad and the plastic frame.

This will require some strength. Work patiently and carefully, tightening the plastic opening tool as necessary.

  1. Make sure to place the tool in the right place - between the plastic front panel and the front glass.
  2. Hold the tip of the plastic opening tool inserted between the front glass of the iPad and the plastic frame and slide the pick into the gap next to the tool.
  3. Remove the plastic opening tool from the iPad, and then lift the front glass about 0.5 inches.
  4. While you're working on the right side of the iPad, reheat the heat bag and replace it on the bottom edge of the iPad.
  5. While the bottom edge is heating, start releasing the glue from the right edge of the iPad.
  6. Slide the hole up the edge of the iPad, scraping off the adhesive as you move toward the top.
  7. If you can see the tip of the opening hole under the front glass, pull it out slightly. It won't hurt anything.

You may need to move the heated hot bag to the right side of the iPad when removing the adhesive.

  1. If the glass gets stuck in the adhesive, “roll” the latch along the side of the iPad while continuing to remove the adhesive.
  2. Before removing the first opening hole from the bottom corner, insert a second clip under the right edge of the front glass.
  3. Warm the thermal bag again and move it to the top edge of the iPad.

The Wi-Fi antenna is attached to the lower right side of the rear case using screws and a special cable. Due to the location of the Wi-Fi antenna, care must be taken to avoid permanent damage to it.

  1. Push the hole in the lower right corner of the iPad, releasing the adhesive.
  2. Don't move the edge any further than the bottom right corner. This can fatally damage the Wi-Fi antenna.
  3. Slide the tip of the opener along the bottom edge of the iPad to release the Wi-Fi antenna from the adhesive.

Once you have removed the adhesive near the Wi-Fi antenna (about 3 inches from the right edge or next to the home key), reinsert the opener to its full depth.

  1. Slide the switch to the right, removing the adhesive securing the Wi-Fi antenna to the front glass.
  2. Continue removing the adhesive along the bottom of the iPad, pulling the tool out slightly to go over the home button, and reinsert it to a depth of half a centimeter once the tip of the tool goes through the home button.
  3. Continue removing the adhesive along the bottom edge of the iPad.

Warm up the thermal bag in the microwave and place it on the left edge of the iPad to heat the glue in this place.

  1. Slide the tool along the top edge of the iPad, pulling it slightly to get around the front camera bracket.

The glue along this area is quite thick. Work carefully and slowly, making sure you don't slip and damage yourself or your iPad.

  1. Continue removing the adhesive along the top edge of the iPad.
  2. Move the “opener” along the left edge of the iPad to remove the glue. The glue here is thin due to the digitizer all over the left surface. Make sure that you do not insert the tool too deep (half a centimeter max.) to prevent any damage to the digitizer.
  3. Peel off the adhesive along the entire bottom left corner.

Removing the glass from the iPad case

  1. Lift the bottom right corner of the iPad and grab it with your fingers.
  2. Hold your iPad by the top and bottom right corners and rotate the glass.
  3. Remove the four 2.0mm machine screws holding the LCD display to the rear housing.
  4. Lift the LCD from the edge closest to the volume buttons.
  5. Place the display on the front panel as shown in the second picture.
  6. Use the edge of the tool to pry open the metal retaining clip that secures the display data cable into the socket on the board.
  7. Pull the display data cable out of the socket on the logic board.
  8. Remove the LCD display from the iPad 2.
  9. Remove the small strip of black tape that is bothering us because it is covering the display data cable connector on the LCD.
  10. Use the edge of the plastic opening tool to flip over the metal retaining clip on the display data cable connector.
  11. Pull the display data cable straight out of the socket and remove it from the LCD.
  12. The LCD display has been removed.

iPad 2 GSM screen and display replacement

Use this guide to replace the screen and display of your iPad 2 GSM.

  • Front panel - 14 steps;
  • Display - 9 steps;
  • Home button - 3 steps;
  • Cameras - 3 steps.

Tools:

  • Hair dryer (preferably with a narrow nozzle);
  • Mediators for opening;
  • #00 Phillips screwdriver;
  • #0 Phillips screwdriver;
  • Plastic opening tools;
  • A set of double-sided adhesive tape.

Instructions for replacing the iPad 2 screen - Front panel.

Step 1

If the screen is cracked, cover it with adhesive tape to prevent glass shards from flying around and causing possible injury.

This will prevent the screen from being damaged further when opening it.

Do your best to follow the manual as described. However, if the screen is cracked, it will likely crack as you work, and you may need a metal tool to remove shards of glass.

Wear safety glasses to protect your eyes and be careful not to damage the display.

Step 2

The iPad 2 glass is held in place by adhesive distributed around the perimeter of the screen. To be able to detach the screen, heat each side of the iPad with a hairdryer.

To gain access to the inside of the iPad, there is a gap approximately 5cm wide in the ring of glue along the edges of the screen. It is located under the volume control button.

Insert the tip of the plastic tool into the gap between the front glass and the plastic frame just enough to widen the gap.

This may take some effort, so make sure you warm up this part of the screen with a hairdryer. Be careful and patient when widening the gap between the screen and the gasket, moving the tool up and down.

Step 3

Make sure you place the tool in the correct place - between the plastic frame and the front glass.

Step 4

When the tip of the plastic tool is wedged between the front glass and the plastic frame, insert a pick into the gap in close proximity to the plastic tool. After this, remove the plastic tool from the slot and push the pick deeper under the screen, about 1 cm.

While continuing to heat the edge of the screen, drag the pick along it to release the glue. Be careful, this may require considerable effort. If the pick gets stuck in the glue, rub it in the crack and continue pushing.

If you can see the tip of the pick under the glass, slightly pull it out of the slot. Although you won't break anything this way, some adhesive residue may end up on the display.

When the entire edge of the screen is detached from the case, insert another pick in the middle to prevent the glue from setting again.

Step 5

The next few steps require extreme caution.

The Wi-Fi antenna is attached to the bottom right edge of the iPad's back case using screws and a cable. Due to this position of the Wi-Fi antenna, you must act carefully, otherwise you may cause irreversible damage to it.

You'll have to remove the adhesive that holds the antenna to the front without damaging the thin parts that connect the antenna to the iPad's body. Follow these steps carefully.

Step 6

Place the pick in the lower right corner of the iPad, and with an upward motion, peel the touch glass away from the body.

Warm up this area with a hairdryer.

Pull the pick out from under the glass, but not completely, but so that its tip (about 1/8) remains under the glass.

Slide the tip of the pick along the bottom edge of the iPad, releasing the adhesive above the Wi-Fi antenna.

Step 7

After you have passed the Wi-Fi antenna with the pick (in close proximity to the Home button), insert the pick under the glass.

Gently move the tip of the pick to the right, releasing the adhesive holding the Wi-Fi antenna to the glass.

The antenna is attached to the iPad body using screws and a cable. This step separates the antenna from the front panel, allowing you to remove the glass without damaging the antenna.

Step 8

Continue removing the adhesive along the bottom of the iPad while heating it with a hairdryer. Pull the pick out just enough to avoid hitting the Home button, and reinsert it right after the Home button.

Once the bottom edge of the screen is detached from the case, leave the pick pressed under the front glass near the Home button to prevent the glue from seizing again.

Step 9

Warm up the top edge of the screen with a hairdryer. Slide the pick between the screen and the plastic spacer at the top right corner of the front panel and drag it along the edge, pulling it out slightly next to the front camera.

The glue in this area is very thick and may require a fair amount of force. Be careful and patient to avoid damaging yourself or your iPad.

Step 10

Continue peeling the adhesive along the top edge and drag the tip of the pick around the top left corner.

Step 11

Warm up the left edge of the screen with a hairdryer.

Move the tip of the pick along the left edge of the iPad.

The touchscreen cable is located approximately 5cm from the bottom of the iPad. Do not push the pick below 5.5cm of the left edge.

Step 12

Using a pick that is clamped underneath the bottom of the iPad, release the adhesive along the bottom left corner.

The touchscreen cable is located approximately 2cm from the lower left corner of the iPad. Be careful not to damage it.

Step 13

Using one of the picks, lift the lower right corner of the front panel and grab it with your fingers.

If the adhesive around the perimeter of the iPad has set again, insert a pick into the area where the glass is stuck and cut through the adhesive.

Step 14

Hold the front of the iPad by the top and bottom right corners and “open” the iPad by unscrewing the glass from the body.

If the glue has set again in some area of the screen, use a mediator.

Step 15

Remove four 2mm Phillips screws, securing the display.

Step 16

Lift the display from the right side (closest to the volume button) and place it on the front panel as shown in the second image.

Step 17

Use a plastic tool to carefully remove the two touchscreen cable mounts.

Make sure you are removing the fasteners and not ripping the entire socket off the board.

The fasteners are highlighted in red in the second picture.

Step 18

Use the edge of a plastic tool to disconnect the touchscreen cable from the shields on the board. Carefully remove it from the glue holding it to the body.

Step 19

Remove the touchscreen cable from the two sockets on the board.

Do not try to remove the front panel right away! The touchscreen cable runs under the display. To avoid damaging it, you must first remove the display.

Step 20

Using a plastic tool, remove the display cable retainer that holds it in the socket.

Step 21

Remove the display cable from the socket on the motherboard.

Do not pull the cable up when removing it.

Step 22

Remove the display.

Step 23

Step 24

The Home button is attached to the front panel with glue. Use a hair dryer to soften it.

Insert the plastic tool under the right side of the Home button fastener and pull up to release the adhesive.

Step 25

Using the above method, remove the adhesive on the left side of the Home button fastener.

Remove the Home button fastener from the front panel.

Step 26

Insert the edge of the plastic tool under the edges of the Home button.

Move the tool along the button body, removing the adhesive.

Remove the Home button from the front panel.

Instructions for replacing the iPad 2 screen - Camera.

Step 27

The camera is attached to the front panel using glue. Warm it up with a hairdryer to soften the glue.

Use a plastic tool to push the camera bracket away from the adhesive holding it to the front panel.

Be careful not to overheat the camera itself!

The camera bracket needs to be moved about 2mm to the right or left depending on which way you push it.

Step 28

Remove the camera bracket from the front panel.

Step 29

Congratulations, you've captured the screen!

If you are replacing your screen with a new one, remember that the new screen may have a protective film on the outside or inside. It needs to be removed.

To reassemble the device, follow the steps in reverse order. Typically, if you buy a new screen for the iPad 2, it either comes with double-sided tape attached around the perimeter, or double-sided tape comes with the tools. You can also use glue, but be careful not to stain the display with it.

When assembling, do not forget that you first need to connect the touchscreen cable, and only then install and connect the display.

When connecting connectors to sockets, be careful to insert the connector exactly into the groove and do not use excessive force - you may damage the connectors.
