A program for downloading protected pages. Comparison of the best programs

To access any website without going online, you can first use special programs that allow you to save the entire site on your computer.

One of the most popular and accessible programs is HTTrack. With its help you can download the entire site for free.

This program is useful if you have financial problems or limited Internet, why pay twice to view the same site.

The program is also relevant if the computer is located where it is impossible to connect to the Internet, for example, when traveling to the country, on a hike, and so on.

The program for downloading entire sites HTTrack also allows you to open pages of a given site in a browser. This program is supported by any operating systems.

You can download the program to your computer on the program website (httrack.com) in the “Download” section. After downloading, the program must be installed.

The installation of the program occurs as usual, just like the installation of any other program. During installation, you can choose where the program will be installed, as well as the interface language.

As a result, after going through all the stages of downloading, we get a ready-made website that can be opened on a computer without an Internet connection.

You can view the loaded site in the last menu, after the mirror has been created, by clicking the “View Mirror” button.

To view a loaded site without the Internet, you need to go to the directory where the desired site was downloaded. The site can be opened either using the HTTrack program file or using the default browser in the folder of the downloaded site by opening the file "Index.html".

Download all pictures on the site page you can by selecting “Download individual files” at step 6 of selecting the type of download task.

In a new window you can select all images from the site page. And continue the stages of loading the site. Thus, we will get the answer to the question of how to download all the pictures from the site page.

How to download website pages for viewing without the Internet?

At step 6 of selecting the type of download task, you can select the “Download individual files” option. In the window that appears, select the necessary site pages that you want to view on a computer without the Internet.

Specific pages of the site will be downloaded to your computer. At the end of the download, you can view the downloaded pages from the last program window, where it says that the creation of the mirror is complete, by clicking “View Mirror”.

As a result, we received information that can be used remotely without spending money and time on the Internet.

I usually save important web pages using the "File -> Save As" function in any browser, or the hotkey "Ctrl + S". But I want to download particularly interesting sites to my disk in their entirety. At the same time, I feel like a hamster who drags everything to himself, but I still need to :)

Well, copying an entire website is no longer a problem, you just need to choose the method that suits you. And there are three of them:

  • Open each page and save to disk
  • Use online services
  • Use special programs

And now more about the last two methods.

Online services

As you can easily guess from the name, these are special sites with which you can download other sites from the Internet. The advantage of this approach is that there is no need to install additional programs, and, accordingly, it does not matter what operating system is installed. Everything seems to be great - you inserted the name of the site, clicked download, and you get a ready-made archive. But in reality everything turned out to be not so rosy.

The disadvantage of services is that there are few of them, and those that exist work so-so or ask for money. Personally, I have never been able to download even a one-page website. The services showed the loading process and froze. But nevertheless, I attach the list:

Using the program is quite easy; a “wizard” will help us with this. After starting the program, a tree of folders and files is displayed on the left, and a wizard invitation on the right. The tree is only needed to open a previously saved project. Click “Next” to start a new project or resume an interrupted download:

Enter any name and path to save the site. It is better to change the default path “C:\My Web Sites” to “C:\Downloads”:

In the third step, you need to enter the domain. The project type can be selected “Download site(s)” if this is a new project, or “Continue interrupted download” if you need to continue downloading the site. The “Update existing download” option is useful for those who already have a copy of the site, but want to update it to the latest one.

Here you can set additional parameters that can reduce loading time. By default, you can not change anything, the program will work fine. But I still recommend paying attention to some parameters:

  • Filters. You can limit the type of files to be uploaded. For example, prohibit or allow downloading of videos or archives (ZIP, RAR, CAB). By default, png, jpg, gif images, css style files and js scripts are included.
  • Restrictions. Set the maximum site scanning depth. Depth is the number of clicks on links from the start page. For example, if the home page of the site is the starting page, and the depth is 2, then the program will download the first level, i.e. the main page, and the pages to which there are links from the main page, and that’s it. If you set the depth to 3, deeper pages will be downloaded. Levels 3-4 are optimal.
  • Links. Check the box “Get HTML files first!”, this will allow you to first download the main text content of the site, and then pictures and other files.

Go ahead. In the fourth step, you can allow the Internet connection to be automatically established and disconnected when the download is complete. You can also set the computer to automatically shut down when finished (check “Shutdown PC when finished”).

Click “Done” and go get a cup of coffee while WinHTTrack WebSite Copier works for us.

The finished website can be opened in two ways.

  • from the folder where the project was saved by clicking on the index.html file. In this case, a page will open with a list of all projects. You need to choose the one you are interested in.
  • from the folder with the name of the project itself by clicking on the index.html file. In this case, the site will open immediately.

DollySites script

I personally use a paid script, but to install it you need hosting and a little experience. But the script works very well, all the sites I copied opened exactly the same as in the original. This script. I use it to create copies of landing pages, but it works with any, even the largest sites.

Offline Explorer

Paid harvester program, there is a demo. Of the obvious differences from WinHTTrack:

  • built-in Web browser and Web server for local preview;
  • recognizes and loads links from HTML files, Java and VB scripts, Java classes, Macromedia Flash (SFW), CSS, XML/XSL/DTD, TOC, PDF, M3U, AAM, RealMedia (SMIL, RAM, RPM) and MS NetShow Channel (.NSC) files;
  • search for loaded sites;
  • export to various formats (including for burning websites to CD);
  • removing scripts from web.archive.org pages.

The interface will seem more complicated, but there is nothing complicated about it. Launch the wizard:

Choose one of 12 templates:

For example, the “Download only one page with images and scripts” template is designed to download only one page. If you don’t know which one to choose, then let it be “Default Template”. Next, enter the desired site, any project name and the path to the folder on the disk:

When the download is complete, a notification will be sent to your desktop.

Of the paid ones, you can also try the once legendary Teleport Pro program (in English), but in my opinion they ask for much more for it than it costs, and it’s already outdated.

What are the limitations of copies?

I want to make it clear that a copied project, even if it looks exactly like the original, does not mean that all functions will work. The functionality that runs on the server will not work, i.e. various calculators, surveys, selection based on parameters - 99% will not work. If the functionality is implemented using Javascript, it will work.

But it is IMPOSSIBLE to download php scripts from the server, in general NOTHING. Also, feedback and application forms will not work without manual modifications; by the way, DollySites does this. Please note that some sites have download protection, in which case you will receive a blank page or an error message.

There are many reasons why you may need to download a website. For example, a slow and unstable channel, it is important to obtain the necessary information in a place where there is no Internet, it was necessary to create a local copy on disk to create a personal archive.

A full copy would be useful for mobile device users, given the cost of traffic and not always available high-speed connections in some places (see). The advantages of this approach: the absence of advertising, the speed of opening pages, the ability to obtain information without the Internet. There are three solutions in this case:

  • page-by-page saving of required pages;
  • online download services;
  • specialized programs

The first method is obvious and simplest. Depending on the browser (see), select the “File-Save As” menu item, or right-click on an empty area and select “save as”. The method is clumsy and inconvenient, suitable for saving a dozen pages.

Service site2zip.com online offers to save the entire site. The interface is simple, just paste the link and click the “download” button. The process is slow, and it is not always possible to download the first time. Captures pictures and styles.

The result is issued in the form of an archive (see), after finishing the work the “download” button appears. The service is free and can switch between English, Russian and German. If desired, the author of the site provides the opportunity to donate; the “Donate” button is located on the main page of the site.

The service is paid and provides the user with many additional options:
  • multi-threaded downloading of sites;
  • working with a web archive (downloading sites by date, starting from 1996);
  • extracts js scripts and swf files;
  • quality guarantee (if you are not satisfied with the result, the money is returned);
  • payment options with additional options.

Before using the service, you need to enter your login/password, top up your balance, and then go to the “my tasks” window. Then choose the option you want: download the whole thing or from a web archive. With the first option, the service will prompt you to select the number of pages to save and the method for restoring links; with the second, a window will additionally appear with the selection of the desired year from the web archive.

Then we go to the “list of tasks” page and observe the download process. When the addresses turn green, a statistics window will appear.

Programs for downloading a website to your computer

Online services are suitable, for example, for those who use a work computer with limited access rights. In other cases, it is more convenient to use specialized software. There are both free and paid options, but they do the same job - they “mirror” the selected resource to the PC’s hard drive.

A free program with advanced functionality available for download on the official website. Although the name clearly refers to the Windows OS, there are versions for Unix and Android. The latter is useful at an airport or train station with public Wi-Fi. Before traveling, you can download materials of interest to the selected device and not worry about constantly losing connection.

The installation process is standard, we specify the folder, create shortcuts if necessary. At the start, in the Preferens section, select Language Preferens and set it to Russian. After the restart, Russification is completed (see). It’s easy to use - at the time of launch, select the project name, save location, and enter the URL. Next you will see a window in which you can see the ordering process online. If necessary, unnecessary pages and files can be skipped.

Additional settings include restrictions on the number of pages and size, the ability to specify download time and speed, filter by content, and prohibit downloading executable files. Upon completion of the work, a log is issued with information about the download, which indicates the number of files, size and time spent.

Supports resuming interrupted downloads and working with proxy servers (see). To view locally, you need to select the index.htm file in the folder with the saved project, which will take you to the main page of the site.

WebCopier Pro – trial

Among the notable features are the creation of archives of downloaded pages, the layout of pages into categories, and there is a built-in task scheduler.

Among the features is a partial update of the saved site; when updates appear, downloading is not necessary; WebCopier will supplement and update the changed files.

Has a graphical representation of the download process.

The program itself looks like a browser. Creating an download is intuitive and similar to other similar programs. The offline browser supports skins and adding translations, including into Russian. The evaluation version of the program works for 15 days, then the author offers to pay 300 rubles.

Teleport Pro

Perhaps the most famous and oldest program designed for website downloads, Teleport Pro is available for download on this page.

Constantly developing, new updates are released, features are added, paid, costs $49.95, there is a trial version.

The Russifier was created by craftsmen; there is no official translation. Ready-made options with localization and payment solutions are available on popular resources. Despite these disadvantages, the program remains one of the best in its class.

The site exploration feature is useful in determining scope. Some resources prohibit use by offline browsers; the program provides a browser simulation mode that will allow you to bypass such prohibitions.

The task scheduler will allow you to select the start and stop time of the download. Dialup users can dial up to their provider. Supports complex formatting and works with scripts. It easily downloads sites where other programs stumble.

Teleport Pro supports downloading up to 250,000 links.

When you launch it for the first time, a wizard will launch, in which you specify the necessary parameters step by step. After clicking the “start” button in the top panel, the program will calculate the amount of work and begin downloading.

The process itself is visible in the working window and can be stopped or paused at any time. When you start it again, you can continue the download; you just need to open the project with ready-made settings saved on disk.

conclusions

So, if you need a program to completely download a site, the choice is extensive (see). If your goal is to obtain information offline without any special frills, use WinHTTrack WebCopier. The program is enough to save small and medium-sized sites with a simple set of scripts, or HTML pages.

For serious work, Teleport Pro is more suitable. If you purchase the program, you will receive full technical support, an expanded set of functions and constant updates.

If you are using someone else's computer or a computer with an operating system other than Windows, it is easier to use the online service site2zip.com. Although it's not perfect, it can handle the surge of small websites.

Imagine the situation: you visited a website, found interesting information on it, and now you are thinking about how to save it. The easiest option is to use, which is supported by any of the modern Internet browsers. The only problem is that you can access a site or a specific page using bookmarks only if your computer is connected to the Internet.

Another possible option is to save text from the page into a Word document, Excel or any other text editor. But in this case, you will not be able to save the pictures, and such a document will not look very good, to put it mildly.

In order to save a page from the Internet on your computer and always have access to it, regardless of whether your computer is connected to the Internet or not, each browser has a special function that can save web documents, including entire pages.

Save the page on PC

So, as mentioned just above, you can save the page in any of the modern browsers: , Opera or (I gave the most popular Internet browsers as an example).

Now I will show you in pictures how to use this function correctly. I will show an example based on the Google Chrome browser; in other browsers the process will be similar. So, let's go.

The first step is to open the page that you would like to save. I opened Yandex.News. Here I see a list of news.

The next very important point: a window will appear in which you can not only set the file name (or leave it as it is), but also select the location to download our page.

Pay attention to the file type, as this is very important. The fact is that by default the browser saves the entire web page, including images, text and other files that the page may consist of. Decide for yourself what exactly you need to save - if the entire page, then don’t change anything, just click “Save”. If you only need text, select “Web Page, Text Only.”

By the way, pictures and other files will be saved in a separate folder. If you delete these files, only the page with the text will open. I think you won't have any problems with this.

Google Chrome has one additional feature that is not available in other browsers (at the time of writing). With its help, you can save the page as a . To do this, you need to call the “Print” menu (press the key combination CTRL+P), then in the “Printer” column, click “Change”.

The last step is to save the PDF document on your computer by clicking on the button of the same name in the menu.

I repeat once again that the procedure in other browsers will be absolutely identical, with the exception of the point through which you can save pages in PDF format in Google Chrome. In addition, almost all browsers support saving by pressing certain keys. In this case it is CTRL+S.

I hope this short article helped you deal with the problem that has arisen. If you have any questions on the topic, please ask them using the comments, the form for writing which is located just below.

Sometimes you need to save a large amount of information from sites, including not only pictures and text. Copying paragraphs and downloading images is not always convenient and also takes a lot of time, especially if it concerns more than one page. In this case, it is best to use other methods that will help you download the entire site to your computer.

There are three main ways to save pages on a computer. Each of them is relevant, but there are both advantages and disadvantages of each option. We will look at all three methods in more detail, and you will choose the one that is ideal for yourself.

Method 1: Download each page manually

Each browser offers to download a specific page in HTML format and save it on your computer. In this way, it is possible to load the entire site, but it will take a lot of time. Therefore, this option is suitable only for small projects or if not all information is needed, but only specific information.

Downloading is done in just one step. You need to right-click on an empty space and select "Save as". Select a storage location and name the file, after which the web page will be downloaded entirely in HTML format and can be viewed without a network connection.

It will open in the default browser, and the storage location will be indicated in the address bar instead of a link. Only the appearance of the page, text and pictures are saved. If you follow other links on this page, their online version will open if you have an Internet connection.

Method 2: Download the entire site using programs

There are many similar programs on the network that help download all the information that is present on the site, including music and videos. The resource will be located in the same directory, due to which you can quickly switch between pages and follow links. Let's look at the download process using an example.

The good thing about saving using additional software is that all actions are performed quickly and the user does not require any practical knowledge or skills. In most cases, you just need to provide a link and start the process, and after execution you will receive a separate folder with a ready-made website, which will be accessible even without a network connection. In addition, most of these programs are equipped with a built-in web browser that can open not only downloaded pages, but also those that were not added to the project.

Method 3: Using online services

If you do not want to install additional programs on your computer, then this method is ideal for you. It is worth considering that online services most often only help to load pages. Site2zip offers to download the site in one archive in just a few clicks:

There is also a paid analogue that provides more useful functions and tools. Robotools can not only download any website, but also allows you to restore its backup copy from archives, and can process several projects simultaneously.

To get a closer look at this service, the developers provide users with a free demo account with some restrictions. In addition, there is a preview mode that allows you to return money for the restored project if you do not like the result.

In this article, we looked at three main ways to download the entire site to your computer. Each of them has its own advantages, disadvantages and is suitable for performing different tasks. Check them out to decide which one will be ideal in your case.
