I am sure that beginning decoupage artists do not always manage to get the right size and get the format that would exactly fit their favorite workpiece. The other day I completed an order for covers for documents with illustrations of the enchantingly magical world of Marty Bell. In this article, using the example of her paintings, I want to show one of the options for how to enlarge an image in Photoshop and get the required size when printed for decoupage.

Open it in Photoshop

File>Open

and a blank slate. To do this, go to the top menu

File>Create.

Specify the sheet parameters and its resolution.

In this case, we need a size of 10*14 cm. We indicate it as shown in the photo. Set the resolution to 300 Pixel/inch and click OK

This will open a blank sheet measuring 100*140 mm.

Hold down the left mouse button and drag it to the center of the screen. This is for convenience.

On the left side of the program there is a toolbar.

Please note that in this panel the “Move” pointer must be active. Such elements are usually highlighted in light gray. For clarity, I have circled it in a red circle in the photo. If it is not active, click on it once.

We point the mouse cursor at the image that we want to place on the sheet. Click on it with the left mouse button and, holding it, drag it onto the white sheet and release the mouse pointer.

Here is a drawing lying on a white sheet of paper. Now we need to stretch it so that we have no white areas left. For this purpose, the element guides are marked in the picture. If they are not there, then you need to check the box in the top panel. In the photo it is circled in red.

“Show control panels.” You will have a frame on the image.

Using the left mouse pointer, grab one of the corners of the guides and stretch the drawing.

If it is distorted and the aspect ratios change, you need to click on the “Save proportions” icon. Circled in red.

By clicking on the picture and holding the button, you can change its location, move it a little to the right or move it closer to the center.

When downloading from the Internet, it happens that not all pictures have good resolution. It’s not scary if you need to print a small one, for example, for magnets measuring 5x5 cm. But what if you need a picture to decoupage the lid of a box with parameters of 20x30 cm? Perhaps if you enlarge the picture to this size, it will lose quality. It will become blurry and pixels will be visible.

Therefore, it is initially important to pay attention to its resolution and determine the possibility of increasing its format to suit your workpiece. In this case, when cropping with a resolution of 680x850 pixels, for a workpiece measuring 10x14 cm, the picture did not significantly lose quality.

On the left side of the program there is a window where in the layers tab you can see how many there are on a given sheet.

Let's combine them by clicking

Layers>Flatten

Now in this tab on the right side of the screen, you will see how two layers have been converted into one.

Open a blank A4 sheet, the same one that most home printers print.

File>New>International Paper Size

A blank A4 file opens. You need to place the finished image on it.

For easier visualization, drag it to the middle of the screen. You need to select the A4 sheet and hold the left mouse pointer and drag it to the center.

Almost everything is ready. All that remains is to insert the finished image into A4 format.

To do this, click on the finished file (it becomes active) and holding the left mouse button, place it on a white A4 sheet.

If the finished image does not fit in this form on A4, it can be rotated through the edit tab

Edit>Transform>Rotate 90 degrees clockwise

Everything is fine? Then we save it.

Set the name and select the JPEG type.

Now you can print it and get the desired size pattern for decoupage work.

It seems that so much is written and everything is very complicated, but in fact it is completed in a matter of seconds.

There are many other ways, but this one is convenient because in addition to cropping, you often have to enlarge the picture. It happens that we are sometimes forced to crop some image space in order to get into the appropriate parameters. Then, it’s better to draw the missing part of the picture, or rather complete it. I will show you how to easily do this in the next article very soon.

0. You should start with this that many scanner control programs allow you to customize the quality and size of the output file, as well as its format.
In 99.99% of cases, the JPG format will be enough for you, size 1200 * 1600, DPI = 300, in other cases: 2400 * 3200, corresponding to the size of an A4 sheet
But, if it was not possible to configure it in the scanner, then the guide below will help us solve everything.

1. So, we have a file scanned from an A4 page.
We set the TIFF format (or our not very new scanner refuses to save files in other formats, or resets our settings every time, or works quickly only by saving in TIFF) - I have encountered all of the above cases and all of them can be overcome.
The resulting file weighs a terrible 26 megabytes.

2. Open it in the IrfanView program.
I recommend this program because I've been using it to view images for over 12 years. It is free for non-commercial use and supports many convenient plugins. It is best to download it from the official website.

Selecting photos for social networks is an important matter, although many people underestimate it. They are the ones who represent you online, and it is by looking at them that most people make their very first impression of you. We looked at how you can optimize photos on Facebook, Twitter and VKontakte.

1 Facebook

When you upload profile photos to Facebook, they are cropped to a square, so it's best to use an image that already has the correct aspect ratio. The photo is displayed on the page with dimensions of 160x160 pixels, but you must upload an image of at least 180x180 pixels. Therefore, open the photo in the editor available to you and set the dimensions to 180x180 pixels.

Facebook supports uploading JPG, GIF and PNG formats. JPEG is typically used when uploading images with mixed tones. (photos and drawings), while PNG is better suited for graphic images, text compositions and logos. However, Facebook converts all uploaded images to JPG.

The image used as a cover image on Twitter has a recommended scale of 1200x600 pixels, and the file size is limited to 5 megabytes. Keep in mind that your Twitter name, handle, bio, location, and URL will appear on top of your cover photo, so choose an image that will clearly show the text.

Not all cases fit the phone equally well. Many users are faced with the problem that the dimensions of the protective accessory do not match the actual dimensions of their device. While the cover was cooking, hold it with a spoon so that it does not float up. After undergoing the rejuvenating procedure, the accessory went to cool down. When its temperature dropped to normal, we tried it on our smartphone - the case no longer fell off and fit tightly.

Let us clarify that our case was made of opaque silicone. This method has a very ambiguous effect on transparent cases, turning the transparent material into a matte one. Well, if the color of the case is not important to you, but its functionality is important, this is unlikely to stop you. But, in turn, we warned you. Having also conducted an experiment with several more pads, we came to the conclusion that not all of them reacted with compression to bathing in boiling water. Some remained larger than necessary in size. From this we concluded that this method is not suitable for every case, but you can still change the size of the silicone case. Unfortunately, you can find out whether this method is effective for your case only by conducting a similar experiment yourself.

How to solve the problem of enlarging the case

As for tips on how to stretch a leatherette phone case, slightly different approaches are used here. We all know that skin tends to stretch. Good leatherette also provides similar opportunities. By analogy with natural material, you can try to stretch the case by inserting a model of your device into it, for example, made of wood. First, the base must be split in half, installing a spacer in the center, which will increase the capacity of the case.

Experts advise placing this entire structure in warm water and leaving it for a while. After the spacer is removed and the case is dry, it should acquire a new desired shape that will allow it to be easily installed on the gadget.

Do not forget that before trying this method, you should, again, contact the seller and tell him your complaints regarding the defects of the ordered product.

Summarizing all of the above, we want to say that it is still possible to return the shape of a deformed phone case. But not everyone. Therefore, before purchasing protection for your device, make sure that it is perfectly compatible with your device by requesting information from the seller. Then, if the slightest discrepancy arises, you will have a reason to return the case, and not look for ways to change its size. Have a nice case!
