This video is not about hacking an access point, but about how to extract a password from an already authorized client computer. But first, let’s figure out in what situation we might need this. Personally, I had this need in the following cases:
When you come to a friend’s house and need to connect to Wifi, but the person doesn’t know the password, since he entered it once and there was no longer a need to remember it;
Once they simply asked me to pull out the Wifi password from the laptop;
And also, there was a need to transfer all wireless connections with which the user had previously worked to the new operating system. So that after reinstallation, the laptop will automatically connect to access points and the user will not have to re-enter passwords.
We will pull out passwords from the Windows XP, 7 and 8 operating systems. And here we will have two methods, this is pulling out the password for the network to which you are currently connected, and from the networks to which you previously connected, but are currently connected not active.
Let's start with Windows 7, since it is in 7 that this process is most simplified:
Password for the connected network (Network and Sharing Center\Changing adapter settings\Wifi adapter connected to the network\RMB\Status\Wireless network properties\Security\Display entered characters)
Passwords for all Wifi network profiles ( Network and Sharing Center\Wireless Network Management, I have one profile specified, but there may be several of them, depending on how many networks the connection was made to \Wireless Properties\Security\Display characters you type). Thus, we can find out the password for the network to which we connected at least once from this device, and if it has not been changed, then we can also connect to this network.
Again, if you do not have administrator rights, then when you check the “Display entered characters” checkbox, you will be prompted for the administrator password. If the password is not known, then you can add the current user to the administrators group, I talked about this in one of my previous videos.
In Windows 8, the process for retrieving the password is:
For an active connection it is similar ( Network and Sharing Center\Change adapter settings\ Wifi adapter connected to the network \ RMB \ Status \ Wireless network properties \ Security \ Display entered characters)
However, there is no Wireless Network Management snap-in, and therefore we cannot view the profiles of wireless connections to which we have previously connected. But this can be done via the command line ( Win+R\cmd\netshwlanshowprofiles– all profiles are displayed \ netshwlanshowprofilesname=”sys-team-admin"key=clear- displays information about the required profile, including the security key). This is quite confusing, so we will use a special program, but more on that later.
As for Windows XP, the key is not displayed in clear form at all (Start\Settings\Network Connections\Wireless Network Connection\Right Click\Properties\Wireless Networks\Network Profile\Properties\Connections).
And in this situation, the WirelessKeyView program will help us, which pulls out all the data we need from the registry (http://www.nirsoft.net \ Password Tools \ WirelessKeyView \ can be downloaded for a 32 or 64 bit system, as well as a crack). Some antiviruses can count the program as a virus, or rather as a hacking tool, and in fact it is so, since it pulls out hidden data, but in any case, it will not harm your system!
After launching the program, all wireless network profiles appear, as well as the key to access points. In its usual form, the key is not displayed, but this is unique to XP; in any case, you can enter the displayed key, it will also work. This program works in XP, 7 and 8.
Also, thanks to this program, we can easily and simply transfer connection profiles to another computer; I had this need when I needed to reinstall Windows on a laptop. And so that the user would not notice any changes when working with familiar access points, it was decided to simply transfer the profiles to the new system!
We select the profiles that interest us by holding Ctrl, or select all ( Ctrl+A\File\Export selected items\wlan\Save)
Let's try to transfer the profiles to Windows 7, but first we'll delete all the profiles to check whether automatic connection to the transferred profiles will occur (Disconnect from the access point\Network and Sharing Center\Manage wireless networks\Delete).
Importing saved profiles ( File\Import keys from export file\wlan\Open) and as you can see, the adapter automatically connected to the Wifi network. In general, thanks to this program we can find out the password for both the access point and copy connection profiles!
I'll show you how to quickly find out the password for your Wi-Fi. There's nothing wrong with forgetting it. This situation very often occurs among ordinary users. Finding a way out of it is very easy, especially if you are connected to Wi-Fi from any device. Even if you do not have access from devices, you can still find out this information.
I will demonstrate 5 ways to find out:
- When connected to Wi-Fi.
- When disabled.
- In the router settings.
- Using the program.
- On an Android mobile device.
The password cannot be found out only if you have changed and forgotten the authorization data in the router settings and you do not have devices that have connected to your Wi-Fi at least once. In this case, you will have to make the settings again.
All actions require administrator rights.
Find out the password in Windows 7, 8 on your computer
If Wi-Fi is connected
On the right and bottom, in the corner of the desktop, find the icon like in the image below and click on it. Then highlight your network ( inscription connected). Go to its properties in the context menu.
By selecting the “Security” tab, enable the display of input icons and the asterisks will be replaced. The network security key string is the password.
If there is no icon, then right-click on an empty space in the lower right panel, then select “Customize notification icons” from the list. Then select “Show icon and notifications” as in the image below.
If Wi-Fi is disabled
This method will work if you have logged into Wi-Fi from the device at least once. The fact is that Windows remembers the Wi-Fi that you logged into. This is done for automatic login so that you do not have to enter data every time.
To see them, go to Start >> Control Panel. Select browse by category and go to the network and internet.
Then go to Network and Sharing Center.
Then go to manage wireless networks.
All networks that you have logged into will be displayed here. Select the one you need and go to properties in the context menu.
Go to the security tab and check the box “Display input icons” as shown below. This is the Wi-Fi password.

Find out the password using the program
The most popular and convenient program for this is WirelessKeyView. Download it from the official website and. No installation required. Just run the downloaded file.
The antivirus can detect the threat. This is because the program accesses passwords. So turn it off for now.
After launch, a window will appear in which the password will be displayed ( in the right column).
If the methods above do not suit you, then there is a universal solution. View the password in the router interface.
Find out the password through the router
Go to settings.
If Wi-Fi is not connected, then connect the router to the computer via a network cable; it is almost always included in the kit.
To do this, enter the IP address in the browser line. You can see it on the box itself, usually located at the bottom. I'll show an example on D-link.
- Login: admin
- Password: admin
If during the initial setup this data was changed and you do not remember it, then in this case only resetting the settings will help.
Then go to Wi-Fi >> Security. Here you will see the PSK encryption key. This is your Wi-Fi password. It may be different for you, since everyone’s device is different, but the actions are similar. Look for similar items.
Find out the password on Android mobile devices
This method is suitable for both phones and tablets. The main condition is that you log into Wi-Fi at least once.
You will need superuser rights ( root). There is no way without this.
If you have them, then follow these steps:
- You can download a special application that will show the password ( for example, WiFi Key Recovery). Do this and run it.
- You can view it through the file manager ( for example, total commander). Open it and follow the path /data/misc/wifi and in this folder find the file wpa_supplicant.conf. Open it with a text editor ( for example QuickEdit) and there find the line with the value psk. This is the network password.

Of the minuses, it should be noted that some antiviruses swear at it, since the program interferes with the settings (my Kaspersky, for example, caused a panic). If this does not bother you, use it to your health.

This method is good because only thanks to it you can find out a password that the computer does not know at all. For example, Windows was reinstalled, but you don’t remember the password for your Wi-Fi and now you can’t connect. So in this case, a router will help.
A router is the thing that “distributes” the Internet. It looks something like this:
Among other things, its settings store a password. To find it, you need to connect the router to the computer via a power cord (usually included).
If the computer remembers the password and connects to the network, then you don’t have to do this.
1 . Open the browser (Internet program), type 192.168.1.1 in the address bar and press the Enter button on the keyboard.
Most often, after this, a login/password request appears. If this does not happen, try other addresses: 192.168.0.0, 192.168.0.1, or 192.168.1.0. But if they don’t fit either, then take the router, turn it over and find its IP address on the sticker.
For example, I didn’t even have an address on the sticker. Then I copied the router model from it (in my case Huawei HG8245A) and entered the request “huawei hg8245a ip address” into the search engine. It turned out that the default address is different, as is the login and password.
2. In the window that appears, enter the login admin and password admin.
Usually this data is suitable (if no one specifically changed it). But there may be other options, for example, root or user. They are usually written on the router itself - on a sticker on the other side.
3. Open the Wireless or WLAN tab and look for the password there. Often it is located in the Wireless Security item (Security Settings or Wireless Protection).
As a rule, the password is written in a column where there is the word Key, Password or Password. Often, to see it, you need to uncheck it.
By the way, it happens that it is written immediately when you open the router settings.
If it doesn't help
Then you can reset all the router settings to factory settings. But in this case, you will have to configure it yourself: specify the Internet connection parameters, network name and password.
To reset the settings on the router there is a small, deeply hidden Reset button (usually it is located on the back).
We clamp it with some sharp object for ten seconds. After this, all settings will be reset, and the router will be as good as new - all that remains is to configure it.

As you can see, in our case, the address http://192.168.0.1/ is suitable for the D-Link DIR-615 router.

As I wrote above, XP is a little more complicated. In principle, you can see everything there too, but not as easily as on Windows 7. Therefore, I advise you not to go into this jungle, but to use the free WirelessKeyView program. Which, by the way, also works great in newer versions of Windows. What does the little program WirelessKeyView do? It displays all the networks to which the computer on which you launched it previously connected. And of course, it displays the saved passwords for these networks.
Everything is very simple. Download the program from the official website http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/wireless_key.html. Open the archive and run the file "WirelessKeyView.exe". The program will open, look for your network there (by name), and in the Key (Ascii) field look at the password for it. It looks like this:

Another proven method. If you can set a password in the router settings, you can view it there. And even if it doesn’t work out, you can set a new password. Another good thing about this method is that you can even access the settings from your phone or tablet. Provided they are already connected. The method described below is suitable if you are connected to a wireless network from a computer/laptop (i.e. you previously registered a password and forgot it) on the windows7 or windows8 operating system.
How to find out the password for a Wi-Fi network in Windows 7/Windows 8.
In order to find out the password in Windows7, you need to go to the Network and Sharing Center. In this article I will describe two ways to do this.
