What to do after installing Windows? We install programs. Windows won't install How to set up Windows 7 after installation

Hello dear visitors. After installing the operating system, in most cases this is Windows 7, the question arises, what to do next, what needs to be configured and installed? I can’t even count how many times I’ve installed Windows 7 and I’ve already developed a habit whereby I set up the newly installed operating system and install the most essential programs for the average user.

Now I will tell you what you need to do first after installing the Windows 7 operating system.

Right click on the icon "My computer" on the desktop, and select “Properties”. At the bottom of the page there will be information on activating the OS. If you see the message that Windows 7 is activated, then everything is ok, you can move on to another item.

Well, if you see messages like “XX days left. to complete the activation.” Then you need to activate the operating system. I think you know how to do it :). There should be no problems activating Windows 7 now.

And one more thing, if a computer “wizard” installs your operating system, be sure to check whether it is activated. I have seen cases where no one activates anything, probably in order to get a client again after 30 days.

If everything is normal, and all devices are recognized by the system, then you will see something like this:

If there are unidentified devices, or problems with some drivers, they will be displayed with yellow exclamation marks.

Often, after reinstalling the operating system, users are faced with a situation where the Internet does not work on their computer. Let's find out how to fix the indicated problem on a Windows 7 PC.

The reason for this problem is quite trivial: after reinstalling the system, all settings are lost, including Internet settings, and network drivers are lost. The algorithm for getting out of this unpleasant situation depends on the specific method of connecting to the World Wide Web. Below we will look at the procedure for troubleshooting this problem when using Wi-Fi and a standard cable connection through the 8P8C network card connector.

Method 1: Wi-Fi

First, let's look at the algorithm of actions when using a Wi-Fi connection. The main reason for failure to access the World Wide Web after reinstalling the OS is the lack of an appropriate driver for the adapter through which communication via Wi-Fi occurs.

  1. Click "Start" and go to "Control Panel".
  2. Next, go to the section "System and safety".
  3. In the window that opens in the block "System" find the subsection "Device Manager" and click on it.
  4. The interface will open "Device Manager". Click on the section name "Network adapters".
  5. If in the list that opens you do not find the network adapter with which you connect to Wi-Fi at all, or if there is an exclamation mark next to its name, this means that the required driver is missing or incorrectly installed.
  6. Try reinstalling it. To do this, select on the top panel "Action" and click on the item "Update configuration...".
  7. After this, the configuration update procedure will be performed and there is a possibility that your network adapter will be displayed, and, therefore, the Internet will work.

    But an outcome is also possible in which everything remains as before. In this case, only installing the “native” drivers of this device will help you. They can be installed from the disk that came with the adapter. If for some reason you do not have such media, then the necessary component can be downloaded from the manufacturer’s official website. After installing the driver and displaying the device in "Dispatcher", search for available networks and connect to the one to which you have access, entering the password as you would normally do.

Method 2: Internet via cable

If you have regular cable Internet, then even in this case, after reinstalling the operating system, there may not be a connection to the World Wide Web. The likelihood of this is even higher than in the previous case, since interaction with many providers requires special settings, which naturally got lost during the OS reinstallation process.

  1. Left-click on the network connections shortcut in the notification area. In the list that appears, go to "Control center…".
  2. In the window that opens, navigate by position “Setting up a new connection...”.
  3. Then select "Internet connection" and press "Further".
  4. Choose one of two connection options provided by your provider:
    • High speed;
    • Switched.

    With a high degree of probability, you will need to choose the first option, since a dial-up connection, due to its low speed, is currently quite rarely used.

  5. A window will open for you to enter information about your service provider. To connect to your provider, enter your username and password into the appropriate fields, which the service provider must give you in advance. In field "Connection name" you can enter an arbitrary name by which you will recognize the connection being created among other objects on the computer. If you do not want to repeat the authorization procedure every time you log into the network, then in this case, check the checkbox "Remember this password". After all the above settings have been entered, click "To plug".
  6. After this, the procedure for connecting to the Internet will be carried out.
  7. But there are times when you have entered all the settings correctly, but you still cannot connect to the World Wide Web. In such a situation, open "Device Manager" In chapter "Network devices", as in the situation with Wi-Fi. This time, a signal of trouble should be the absence of a computer’s built-in network card in the list. Next, do all the manipulations, including updating the configuration and, if necessary, installing drivers that have already been described above.
  8. After this, the built-in network card should appear in the list, and the Internet should work.

  9. But this does not always help, and if after performing these steps the problem does not disappear, you need to check the network settings. This is relevant if your provider does not support automatic settings. But first you need to contact your service provider to find out exactly what data needs to be entered. In particular, the IP address and DNS server address. Next, go to "Control Panel" and choose "Network and Internet".
  10. Then open the next section "Control center…".
  11. After that, go by position "Change settings…".
  12. In the window that opens, find the name of the connection through which you want to activate communication with the World Wide Web. Right-click on it and select a position "Properties".
  13. In the displayed shell, in the list of components, find the name "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP4)". Select it and click "Properties".
  14. It is in the window that opens that you should enter the settings provided by the provider. But in order to be able to enter data, move the radio buttons to position "Use…". After that, enter information in the active fields and click "OK".
  15. The network connection should appear.

After reinstalling the operating system, the Internet may disappear due to the lack of necessary drivers or loss of installed settings. The algorithm of actions to resolve this problem depends on the type of connection to the World Wide Web.

Often, after reinstalling their favorite Windows 7 OS, users discover that it has become impossible to access the global network. This usually happens when using low-quality system assemblies. Note that a licensed installation disk, as a rule, contains everything needed to run the OS and the most important functions for the user, including the Internet. In such assemblies, the computer independently selects the connection diagram, installs the necessary drivers, etc. How to configure Windows if the Internet does not work? Let's look into it in more detail!

Installing the official version of Windows saves users from many problems

There are a number of most common reasons why the Internet does not appear. This:

  • lack of correct and up-to-date drivers for the adapter;
  • the problem is on the provider's side;
  • Windows services are disabled;
  • the network card is not configured correctly;
  • one of the PC components is faulty.

Drivers

Lack of drivers is considered the most popular reason for network failure. The system is installed without a driver for the adapter, so Windows is not able to connect this electronic computer to the network. What to do?

It is important to check if your guess regarding the lack of drivers is correct. To do this, go to Network Connections and then check if there are live connections in the specified window.

If the connection is found, but there are no changes, try the next method.

Windows usually accepts the driver adequately and even creates an active connection, but if the software is not suitable, the network does not work. To check this nuance, go to “Device Manager”. If the problem lies in the incompatibility of components, an exclamation mark will appear next to your adapter.

If such problems occur, you will have to reinstall the driver. The lack of Internet makes this task difficult to complete, because it will be difficult to get a suitable file without outside help. This is where the driver disk that usually comes with the computer when purchased is invaluable. You can install all the drivers from this disk and everything should work. But drivers are usually not included with laptops.

If you have a disk with Windows installation files on hand, we recommend inserting it into the CD-ROM and letting the system “get” the necessary drivers. Nothing changed? Then you will have to go in search of the required file to friends or neighbors whose Internet is more stable than yours.

Knowing the name of the adapter or your motherboard, you may be able to download the required driver on the Internet. Alternatively, you can download a driver pack, for example, DriverPack Solution - the program itself will detect all computer devices, install all missing drivers and update outdated ones. But you need to download the full version, which can work without the Internet.

Enabling services

If all programs are updated, but the network still does not appear, check the system services. To surf the World Wide Web, you need to launch a number of Windows 7 options, which are configured in the “System and Security” section. By clicking on the indicated shortcut, you need to select “Administration”, and then “Services”. A list of all OS services will now appear. Check if the following are enabled:

  • telephony;
  • network connections;
  • Telnet;
  • DNS client;
  • network list service;
  • DHCP client;
  • computer browser.

All these options must be enabled after reinstalling Windows, otherwise it will be impossible to connect to the wired Internet. To activate this or that option, first select “Properties” (right-click on the service). Here it is recommended to set the startup to the “Auto” position (the service will automatically start when the PC is turned on).

Equipment

Sometimes the problem is so basic that it is simply overlooked. Often the user starts changing connection parameters in Windows or reinstalling drivers, not suspecting that the problem lies in the physical connection of the equipment.

Initially, we advise you to check whether the light on the network card is on. It is located near the connector where the provider wire is connected. If the indicator is green, it means there is indeed a connection between the provider and your computer. Otherwise, we advise you to call technical support from a company that provides Internet services, because, most likely, the problems should be corrected on their side.

The telephone connection is now considered obsolete, but some people continue to use it. For this type, you need to check whether there is a dial tone on the telephone line. We also recommend asking the company about alternative connection methods.

If access is via a wireless connection, you must ensure that it is active. This can be seen by the blinking icon in the corner of the desktop.

As for the modem, it is important to check the battery charge when using it. In addition, experts advise using a cable rather than Bluetooth.

If you are using a connection to a Wi-Fi router, you need to make sure that it is working and that the computer is connected to it correctly. It happens that simply turning the router off and on helps - some models can sometimes simply “freeze”.

Connection features

If there is no Internet after reinstalling Windows on your PC, you may have entered the wrong settings. Often, the provider issues special instructions that help you configure all components (binding a MAC address, using a password, login, etc.).

When using the PPPoE protocol, the system waits for the user to enter login/pass. This direct connection method is considered one of the most famous; let’s consider it in more detail.

So, you should check the connection status, this is done in the Network Control Center. In connection settings, select “Internet Connection”, and then click on “High-speed with PPPoE”, which involves the participation of a provider cable or DSL.

Now you just need to come up with a name and enter login/pass from the provider agreement. If you do everything correctly, the Internet will appear immediately after applying the settings.

Good afternoon dear visitors of the blog site. Probably each of you wondered what to do after installing Windows? What needs to be configured, install first.

Since the most popular OS is Windows 7, the installation of which I described, we will configure it directly, although this plan will also be relevant for versions such as: Vista, 8, 8.1, 10.

Setting up Windows 7 after installation

Step 1: Activate Windows

The first step is to activate our system. If you have a key, it is entered during the installation process, or you need to go to Control Panelsystem and safety— System, at the very bottom, find an inscription containing information that your copy is not activated and there is still time left until the end of the trial period XX– days. If you click on this inscription, a window will open in which you will need to enter your activation key.

You can also activate Windows by phone, or use the best activation program that I wrote about.

Step 2: Install the necessary drivers

If any drivers are not installed, then you need to use the disk that came with your computer or laptop, or update via the Internet.

It is important that even if the system has selected a driver for the video card and everything works and is displayed well, be sure to download and install the latest drivers from the video card manufacturer’s website, otherwise it will not work to its full potential!

Step 3: Disable User Account Control (UAC)

This service is aimed at ensuring computer security, monitors all processes in the system and notifies you about their activities with its constant “intrusive” messages.

By disabling it, you increase the risk of your computer becoming infected with malware. But if you use antivirus software on your computer, you can disable this service in the Control Panel. See how to do this.

Step 4: Selecting and installing an antivirus

Windows system setup involves installing an antivirus. This process must be taken seriously, because the security of your computer primarily depends on antivirus software.

In my practice, I tried many antiviruses, each had its pros and cons. In the end, my choice settled on two antiviruses: Avast And Dr.Web.

I install the first one for clients who do not want to constantly search for keys or do not understand these nuances, and it is also installed at work, on all computers.

The second one is in my home, on my favorite computer, and protects it from all “nasties.” I consider this antivirus to be the most optimal.

All the others that I used before, including nod 32, Kaspersky, Norton and others, in my opinion are much inferior to this antivirus product.

Step 5: Disable Windows Automatic Updates

Step 8: Windows visual effects, disable unnecessary ones on weak computers

By disabling visual effects on weak PCs, you can achieve a good performance boost.

But on any computer, powerful or weak, I disable “Show window contents when dragging.” For example, it is more convenient for me to drag a window and see what is under it.

Step 9: Set the paging file size for Windows 7 and other OSes

This file is used to store part of running programs or any files in case of insufficient RAM.

Typically the system sets the default size relative to the installed RAM. If the amount of RAM is large enough, then the size of the paging file should be reduced; if, on the contrary, then slightly increased.

You can also transfer it to another hard drive (if you have several of them) for faster system operation.

Step 10: Enabling ReadyBoost

Step 13: Install the necessary programs for Windows

The first thing I always do is install the archiver WinRAR, necessary for viewing and creating archives. Then you need to install a program to open text documents, this can be either MS Office, or OpenOffice.

To play multimedia files, you must install K-Lite Codec Pack, and some kind of player AIMP3 for playing music files.

These are quite popular and high-quality products that are easy to find on the Internet. You can also install CCleaner, to remove various garbage and clean the registry.

Step 14: Configuring Windows programs to start automatically, changing additional boot options

One of the important points in Windows setup, affecting the boot speed of the system and desktop, as well as performance in general.

After installing the programs, you need to check autostart for the presence of extra entries, if there are any, then it is worth removing them, since these programs will hang in RAM from the moment the OS starts, thereby increasing the startup time of Windows and reducing performance in general.

In the additional download options of the utility msconfig, It is worth setting the maximum number of processor cores that will be used when starting the operating system. This option will allow increase OS startup speed .

Step 15: Clean Windows from junk and defragment it

After installing the system and various programs, there is always various garbage left: temporary files and so on that clutter the system.

You need to get rid of them using a special program, for example, CCleaner. With its help, you can also clean the registry.

After cleaning the system, when there is no garbage or temporary files left in it, you need to defragment the system partition, which will increase system performance by arranging fragmented files sequentially on the disk.

Step 16: Disable autorun from removable media

Some people like and convenient this autorun feature from media, but it carries a hidden threat. Many types of virus programs infect computers by autorun while located on a flash drive.

Step 17: Create a System Backup

When the system is maximally optimized and ready for operation, you need to make a backup copy of it - create an image of the system partition. This is done using a standard Windows tool called “Data Backup”.

Ask why is this necessary? I answer:

A backup copy is necessary to restore the OS in cases of damage and inoperability. If you restore it from this image, you will have a “clean”, error-free, working system. All installed programs and settings made up to the sixteenth step inclusive will be saved!

Well, that’s all, dear friends, now you know what to do after installing Windows. I've briefly outlined the seventeen steps for setting up Windows for the first time. If you have any questions, ask them in the comments.

This article describes how to install or reinstall Windows 7.

Before installation begins, you need to complete several preparatory steps. At the beginning of the article we have placed detailed content so that you can quickly view the entire sequence of actions and move on to the necessary part of the instructions.

If you are interested in a specific question (such as installation errors, how to enter and configure the BIOS, etc.), the links in the content will take you directly to it.

If you are a beginner, then simply follow the guide from start to finish: each point is described in as much detail as possible and includes links to supporting instructions.

What should be ready before installation

Review the list below to ensure your computer and system are ready to install or reinstall Windows 7 and follow the steps required to complete the preparations.

What types of installation are there, how to save personal files and programs

There are two types of installation:
  • A complete reinstallation of the operating system (OS), which completely erases a hard drive partition (or the entire drive), including all your programs, documents and files.
  • An OS update that only updates system files.
Updating the OS has a number of disadvantages. Therefore, it is recommended to perform a complete reinstallation of the system, and for this you will need to save all personal files and program settings.

If you haven't done this yet, read the article on preparing for installation, from it you will learn:

  • how to save all important personal data;
  • what programs will be needed immediately after installation and where to download them;
  • Is it possible to copy installed drivers, where can I find the drivers after installation;
  • analysis of some special cases;
Save all data and proceed to the next step.

How to legally download the original image of Windows 7 x64 or x32 for free.

Download original image can be done legally using the program "Windows ISO Downloader": the file with the Windows image will be downloaded with Microsoft official website.

Program file "Windows ISO Downloader" with version 5.21 (dated September 20, 2017) is attached to the article (to the right of this text).
How to download the image correctly is shown in the figure below:

Select the Windows 7 partition, then the desired edition of the Windows 7 image and the “Confirm” button.

Attention!
We strongly we do not recommend use Windows 7 builds - use only original system images.

Microsoft has several aircraft hangars with a variety of equipment designed to test the operation of the operating system on various combinations of devices. Therefore, the official OS image works correctly for the vast majority of users.

The authors of assemblies do not have such testing capabilities, so a certain percentage of users will experience problems during the operation of the assembly, which can only be resolved by completely reinstalling Windows.

Which image version to choose: 32 bit or 64 bit

Everything is very simple: a 64-bit OS is needed in two cases: so that the computer can “see” 4GB or more of RAM and so that you can work with “heavy” programs or games. Attention!
Some new programs and games may not run on 32-bit Windows.
Conclusions:

  • If the amount of RAM is 4GB or more, feel free to choose x64 (64 bits).
  • If the computer is old and complex programs (for example, audio and video editors, design systems, multimedia packages) are not used, choose x32 (32 bits).
More information about the difference between a 32-bit and a 64-bit operating system is provided in this article.

The easiest way to see how much RAM you have is to right-click on the icon "My computer" → select item "Properties" in the context menu.

The window that opens will indicate the amount of RAM, as well as the bit capacity of the system currently installed.

Which version of Windows 7 should I choose: Home, Professional or Ultimate?

There are different versions (editions) of Windows 7, some of which differ greatly in functionality. You can read more about Windows versions.

Most often, when installing, they choose between versions of “ Professional " And " Ultimate ».
The best choice in terms of image version would be « Windows 7 Professional » .
But don’t worry if you have a different edition of Windows - the installation process will be similar.
In the edition " Professional " Unlike "Ultimate" there are a number of services that most users will never use.
You probably haven't even heard their names: DirectAccess, Unix Application Launch Subsystem, BranchCache, BitLocker, etc. Accordingly, hard disk space version « Professional » will take less.

How to properly burn an image to a DVD or USB flash drive?

If you have already recorded the image and the installation from it went smoothly, then you can immediately move on to the next chapter. If you don’t know which programs can be used to burn an image to a disk or flash drive, then the following auxiliary articles will help you: Please note that installation from a flash drive is more reliable and also faster. If you have a flash drive with a capacity of 4GB or more, then it is better to install from it.

Windows reinstallation process.

So, preparation for installation is complete: all personal data has been saved, the media with the operating system distribution has been created, and the partition on which the image will be installed has been prepared.

Setting boot device priority in BIOS

  1. Restart your computer and enter the BIOS.
    • on personal computers, buttons are most often used to enter the BIOS « DELETE» (« Del»), « F2", "F1", "Esc»
    • on laptops - keys « F8", "F9", "F12", "Esc»
  2. After going to the BIOS, you need to find the menu section responsible for installing devices to boot the OS.
    The partition may be located in different places (depending on the type of motherboard and BIOS version), so you need to find the menu « FIRST BOOT DEVICE », « BOOT » or « BOOT DEVICE ».
  1. You need to go to this section of the menu and set the drive to first place DVD or HDD(your Flash drive) depending on what media the image was recorded on.
  2. After this, you need to exit the BIOS and save the changes.
    Most often, to save changes, you need to press the key before exiting. « F 10" , and then confirm saving by pressing « Y » or by selecting « Yes » in the dialog box.
If you have difficulty entering the BIOS, saving changes, or finding boot device priority settings, then read the article about setting parameters in the BIOS.

In the article you will find instructions with examples:

  • how to enter BIOS or UEFI with examples of different BIOS screens.
  • how to find the option "BOOT DEVICA PRIORITY".
  • table with a list of keys for entering the BIOS on laptops from different manufacturers.

Autorun Windows installation from a DVD or flash drive

If you did everything correctly, then after restarting your computer you will see the following:

  • if you are using DVD media, you will see the message “Press any key to load from CD...” (press any key to boot from CD). You must immediately press any key, because after a short amount of time (about 10 seconds) the boot will begin from the next boot device installed in the BIOS.
  • if you used a flash drive, the installation will begin immediately
Remember!
When installing an operating system, you should be careful and careful with functions that you do not fully understand.
The site administration is not responsible for the results of your actions.

Start installation

Attention!
Your computer may have gray and blue USB connectors. If you are installing the OS from a flash drive, be sure to plug the flash drive into the connector USB2.0 (gray), otherwise the installer may not see it.
You can judge that the operating system installer has started working by the line that appears at the bottom of the screen.

Selecting the installation type

  • A system update will allow you to reinstall Windows on top of your existing operating system.
  • A full installation will allow you to select an existing partition for installation or re-partition the hard drive. The system will be installed completely, so this option is more acceptable (we wrote more about installation types at the beginning of the article).

Figure 5. Selecting the operating system installation type.
Choose "Full installation (advanced options)", as shown in Figure 5.

Figure 6. Selecting a hard drive for further installation Windows 7.

Hard disk partitions for system installation

After proceeding to the full installation, we will be presented with a list of hard drives on which we can create or select partitions for installation. At this step there may be several options for the development of events.

  • You only have one hard drive in your system.
  • You have a separate hard drive (possibly an SSD) where the operating system will be installed, and separate drives for storing data.
  • The installer does not see the hard drive or other errors occur (below are links to articles that discuss these problems step by step)
Attention!
If you have several hard drives, then transfer all important data to the drive where you will store personal files and disconnect it so as not to accidentally mix up the drives when creating partitions or formatting.
If you only have one hard drive (or SSD), then it is advisable to split it into parts (if the disk space allows it).

The disk must be divided into parts so that at least 50GB is allocated for the system, possibly even more, because For normal operation of Windows 7, it is desirable that there be at least 15-20% free space on the system partition.
The disk is divided into partitions to make it easier to reinstall the operating system in the future.

For example, you have only 1 hard drive in your computer with a capacity of 500GB.

You split it into 2 parts: 120GB (disk " C:") and 380GB (Disk " D)

Now on disk « D you store music, movies, photos, program installers, folders with drivers, games, etc., and on the disk « C you install programs to work.

Files from the “Desktop” and “My Documents” folders are also stored on the disk « C:». When in the future you want to reinstall Windows, you just need to transfer (copy) all important files from the desktop and other disk folders « C to disk « D, then do a complete reinstallation with disk formatting « C.
If the disk is not partitioned, then you will have nowhere to transfer data from the disk « C:», and you won't be able to format it.

Creating disk partitions

At this step, you can create partitions on your hard drive if:

  • the hard drive is not partitioned (new or all partitions were previously deleted);
  • There are no important files on the hard drive, and all information can be deleted.
The new hard drive is immediately displayed as a single partition and labeled as “unpartitioned” (see Figure 6).
If you are going to repartition the disk (and all important files have already been transferred from it), then you need to:
  1. Sequentially delete all partitions of your disk using the button "delete" . Attention! All files on these partitions will be deleted!
  2. Select the unallocated partition that appears with the mouse, click the button "Create" (See Figure 6).
  3. Specify the size first for the system partition (which will be the disk « C ), then create a partition for the disk « D (and other disks if necessary).
If the disk was not allocated, the OS installer will additionally create a 100MB partition to store special system files.

Selecting a partition for installation

If disk partitions have been created previously:

  1. Select the system partition (on which the OS was previously installed).
  2. Click on the button "Format".
  3. After formatting, select the erased partition and click on the button "Further".
If the installer does not see the hard drive, requires a device driver, or other problems occur, then search for and resolve your error using these two articles:
  • Analysis of various types of errors when installing Windows 7 (including by code).
  • What to do if the installer does not see the device (drive, hard drive, keyboard or mouse, etc.).
In Figure 6 you can see an unallocated 35 GB disk.

Figure 7. Creating a partition on the hard drive
In our case, no partition has been created yet, so we need to click on the button "Create" (Figure 7), then indicate the volume of the partition to be created (Figure 8) and click on the button "Apply" .

Figure 8. Selecting the volume for a partition on the hard drive

Figure 9. Partition creation confirmation window
After this, the operating system installer will inform you that an additional partition will be created to store system files:

Figure 10. Installing Windows 7.
Click on the button "Further", after which the installation will begin (copying all system files and the process of setting up the OS).

The process of copying files will take 15-30 minutes and will not require any action from you.

Figure 11. Installation completion window
Once the files are copied and unpacked, the computer will restart.

At this point, you must remove the DVD or Flash drive from the computer, as the installation will continue from the hard drive to which the necessary files were copied.

After the reboot, you will see a window indicating that the installation is complete.

Figure 12. Entering the username and network name of the computer for the installed system.
The completion process will take a few minutes, after which the initial setup of the operating system will begin.

Completing Windows installation and initial setup

When the setup process comes to an end, you will be prompted to enter a user name to create your account, as well as a computer name for subsequent network identification (under this name your computer will be visible on Windows local networks).
